After excellent campaigns with the ball in the ODI World Cup 2023 and T20 World Cup 2024, Boom Boom is back to lead the Indian bowling attack in their quest to qualify for the third straight World Test Championship final in the current 2023-25 cycle. And the fans are eagerly waiting for him to mark his run-up.

The magician played stellar roles in both World Cup campaigns scripting unbelievable numbers. A tally of 20 wickets from 11 matches at an economy of 4.06, the best for any player who played more than a match at the ODI World Cup 2023, and 15 wickets at a magical economy of 4.17 shows you how much Boom Boom is feared and respected. In both events, our star bowler was unplayable. Period.

Ranked third among bowlers in Test Cricket, Boom Boom’s numbers in the longest format are equally menacing. He has 159 wickets at an impressive strike rate of 45.1 balls per wicket. Even in the subcontinent where spinners rule the roost, Boom Boom held his own in the England series with his pace, variations and reverse swing.

Whenever RO needed a wicket, Boom Boom was at the team’s service. It is not surprising to see current coach Gautam Gambhir speak highly of Team India’s pace spearhead.

“Jasprit Bumrah is the best fast bowler in the world, across formats. It's great to have Bumrah in the dressing room, someone who can change the game at any point of time," Gambhir said at the pre-match press conference on Wednesday (September 18).

"India is a batting-obsessed nation. But Bumrah, Ashwin and Jadeja are changing that. Bumrah is smart in Test cricket. It is good these guys are changing the trend.”
