DCvMI report: “Just forget this game” – Kaptaan Kaur sums it up
It’s just one of those game we need to quickly put behind us and move on. Nothing quite went right with bat and ball. But if there’s anything this team is known for, it’s the fighting spirit, and trust the Mumbai Indians to bounce back with a bang come the Lucknow leg.
“I think today was one of the days when things didn't go according to plan. We struggled to score runs in the first six overs, we got some rhythm in the middle overs but we were not able to continue that. 120 was never going to be enough against a good side. We did everything right in the last three games and are still in a good position. I would like to tell them to just forget this game because there are more important games coming up,” said skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur in the post-match interview.
Useful batting contributions, but sadly, nothing big
Having been put into bat first, most of our batters got decent starts, but alas, no one could dig in and get a big one. Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews got the team off to a good start in the powerplay, but fell in quick succession. Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harman then consolidated a fair bit with a 38-run stand, but again, once Harman fell, the innings slipped and MI folded out for an undercooked 123/9 in their 20 overs.
Meg Lanning joins the party for the Capitals
She’d been having a pretty tough season with the bat thus far, but Lanning found herself among the runs today. She was playing second fiddle to Shafali Verma at first, who got the Delhi Capitals off to a flier. Together, they put up an 85-run stand in quick time, and Meg then went on to hit the winning runs as well through a well-made 49-ball 60.
Alas, the wickets don’t come!
Kaptaan Kaur tried everything. From using seven different bowlers to using Shabnim Ismail’s pace upfront and finishing her quota, she kept mixing it up, but without the pressure of the asking rate, the Delhi batters got home with nine wickets and 33 balls to spare.
Right then, that’s it, let’s not look back at this. We’ve done plenty right through the season and this is just a minor aberration. Let’s gather the positives and head up north, to Lucknow for one game before we come down to Aamchi Mumbai, our home, our fortress!
