Our fielding let us down: Maxwell
Kings XI Punjab slumped to their fifth consecutive loss in the tournament. Kings XI Punjab dropped a couple of important catches and were not able to restrict MI to a below par total. The wicket didn’t have much to offer for the bowlers and it was a good deck to bat on. Maxwell said, that “The pitch was okay. We gave them too many chances on the field, we got Parthiv’s wicket of a no ball when he was struggling at 30 and he went on to get 80. We did the same to Rayudu as he hadn’t opened up much and after that he hit a couple of sixes to put us back under pressure. And after 12 overs they had gotten to a score of 112 which shouldn’t have happened as we had restricted them in the power play. Our fielding let us down massively in this game.
Talking about his form, Maxwell said that “The last two dismissals that I had were from the middle of the bat and I was unlucky. I hit a ball to the fine leg with a switch hit and I hit it too well to give a catch to the fielder. My form is as good as ever but I have just been unlucky. Sometimes when you have runs under your belt you seem to get on a little bit of a roll. The same thing happened today. You get a slight momentum with your bat and the first mistake you make, you are out in this game. Parthiv made those a couple of times but got away with it. But you shouldn’t give the opponent a chance to have another crack at the game.”
With eight games left for Kings XI Punjab they will require a massive turnaround to contest for a playoff spot. “We need to get things right. We have to perform on all fronts. We came close in the first game but Aaron Finch played a good innings, and that’s all it takes sometimes. But we would like to get everything right from now onwards with the ball, bat and on the field. We are just lacking a bit of polish at this moment and we hope we get everything right after this short break when we take on Gujarat Lions,” said Glenn Maxwell.
