INDvBAN 1st T20I: Pandya-SKY combine power India to facile win

Aapla Dada Surya and his Indian team offered a visual treat to the packed Sunday crowd at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior as they thumped  Bangladesh by seven wickets in the first T20I on Sunday, October 6.

Bowling first, the Men in Blue put in a clinical display to dismiss their neighbours for just 127 runs in 19.5 overs. Arshdeep Singh (3/14) and Varun Chakravarthy (3/31) shone with impressive spells and ensured Bangladesh never settled down in their batting essay.

In return, India made light work of the chase romping home in just 11.5 overs with Kung Fu Pandya (39* off 16 balls) and SKY (29 off 14 balls) thrilling the fans with their astonishing shot-making.

Here is a quick recap of how the first T20I turned out.

Arshdeep ‘powerplay’ Singh

Arshdeep Singh meant business once again tilting the game in India’s favour sending back both the Bangladesh openers in his first two overs. Litton Das was tricked while going for a slog whereas Parvez Hossain Emon’s timber was unsettled with an inside edge.

Debutant Mayank Yadav straight away tested the batters with his thunderbolts and started his international stint with an impressive maiden as Bangladesh managed to reach 39/2 at the end of the powerplay.

Triggering a collapse

Soon Bangladesh slipped from 39/2 to 75/6 as the Indian bowling attack kept up the pressure and picked up regular wickets. Varun’s mystery, Mayank’s pace and Washington’s accuracy were too much to handle for Bangladesh.

Hardik Pandya (1/26) and Arshdeep then returned to kill off any signs of resistance and recovery from the visitors and polished off the tail to lock the target at 128.

Going all guns

The swag of SKY and the class of Sanju Samson made up for an addictive watch as India accelerated to top gear in no time. Taskin Ahmed understood why top bowlers hated to bowl to Aapla Dada Surya, but the hard way. India went past the 50-run mark in a flash, in just 4.4 overs.

4.3 overs: Surya flicks Taskin nonchalantly for four.

4.4 overs: Surya flicks Taskin again for another four.

4.6 overs: This time the Supla shot, and it went miles away in the night sky as Taskin watched helplessly.

Unfortunately, SKY’s entertaining cameo, studded with two fours and three sixes, came to an end after another beautiful six. On the other end, Samson (29) was oozing class playing almost every shot in the book to perfection as India motored on to 71/2 after six overs.

In walks Pandya

HP wasted no time in signalling his intentions as he smashed a four off his very first ball. Another stylish shot, this time the ramp over short third, from Kung Fu Pandya saw the Men in Blue ease past 100 inside the 10th over.

Hardik played some exquisite shots, including a six over extra cover and an audacious no-look scoop over the wicketkeeper's head. It was a fitting finish as HP brought the curtains down with an emphatic pull shot over the mid-wicket fence. His innings was decorated with five fours and two maximums.

Having drawn first blood, the Men in Blue, along with the fans, will be eager to continue the winning run when they face Bangladesh in the second T20I at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday.

Brief scores: India 132/3 in 11.5 overs (Hardik Pandya 39*, Suryakumar Yadav 29; Mehidy Hasan Miraz 1/7) BEAT Bangladesh 127/10 in 19.5 overs (Mehidy Hasan Miraz 35*; Arshdeep Singh 3/14, Varun Chakravarthy 3/31) by seven wickets.
