Even the rains could not dampen the spirits of the Indian bowlers led magnificently by Jasprit Bumrah as India bowled out Bangladesh for 233 runs in under 40 overs after play restarted on day four. Boom Boom (3/50) was breathing fire in the morning session with the batters finding him a tough nut to crack.
Akash Deep (2/43) had provided a bright start on day one and Ravindra Jadeja signed the end of the innings with his 300th wicket in Tests.
A batting show for the ages
With a win in mind despite of the lost time, captain RO (23 off 11 balls) and team stepped out to the park, all guns blazing. It was as though a T20 game was being played in whites and red ball.
Hitman was at his vintage best smashing two sixes in the first two balls he faced. The intentions were loud and clear as the team also joined in. What followed was a batting show that the fans will remember for a long time to come.
Yashasvi Jaiswal (72 off 51 balls) and KL Rahul (68 off 43 balls) scored aggressive half-centuries as India rewrote every record in sight. The records for the fastest team 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 all lay by the wayside as the Indian juggernaut blasted to 285/9 in just 34.4 overs. With a handy lead of 52 runs, India put Bangladesh back again to force a result.
Falling like a pack of cards
Blown away by the unbelievable shot-making by India in the first innings, Bangladesh fell behind the game and were reduced to 36/3 with Ravichandran Ashwin (3/50) putting the new ball to maximum use. There was a slight resistance from the visitors but only till ‘Sir’ Jadeja (3/34) arrived.
The left-arm spinner induced a collapse and then Boom Boom (3/17) did what he does best, outfoxing the opposition batters with his impeccable skill. Bangladesh fell like a pack of cards getting dismissed for 146.
Target 95, just a formality
With a target of 95, it was just a formality as India raced to 98/3 in just 17.2 overs to complete the proceedings. Jaiswal (51) top-scored yet again as India won with more than a session to spare on the final day. It was one of the most memorable victories at home.
