KKR is a tough opposition and we have to stick to our process: Tim David
Our big-hitter from Singapore Tim David addressed the pre-match press conference for KKR vs MI.
David spoke about his MI experience so far, his conversations with Polly and what his goals are for Tata IPL 2022 among others.
“It’s been great so far. We have had great training, good preparation and some great staff and players. It’s been enjoyable so far,” David stated on his experience at the MI camp.
“Rohit is a fun captain, just getting used to playing with him. He has been talking to me about how to plan my skills best in the game to help the team. It’s the same with Mahela,” he added of the conversations he has had with the captain and head coach.
Coming lower down the order to finish off games or innings is one of the toughest jobs in cricket and in the first two games, Tim David also has had to come in at tough situations. So, how does he prepare for it?
“I think it’s about having a routine. You can’t control the outcomes so I try to stick to a process to have an impact, whatever the situation. It may not come off every time,” said David.
“Communication is also important with the support staff and other players about conditions on the ground and the pitch to get a better understanding. It takes a little bit to get used to when I am playing in these conditions for the first time.”
The power-hitter does have one of the best mentors in the camp for lower-order hitting in the form of Kieron Pollard and David was appreciative of the chats they have had so far.
“I think he has played more than 10 years so he has a wealth of experience. I think the advice will come naturally, you cannot get it in a notebook from him. I run some ideas past him for different situations and different experiences. Hopefully, I pick up a few bits to add to my game,” said David.
So far in the Tata IPL 2022, chasing teams have won seven of the 12 matches and the batter felt dew was a factor there.
“If dew comes in during the night games, it could become easier to bat because the outfield is fast. So there probably is an advantage batting second but it’s hard to predict. It’s not just as easy as winning the toss and bowling first to win the game, you still have to play good cricket,” felt David.
This will be MI’s first game at night and we face an in-form opposition in the form of KKR.
“They are a strong side and we have done our analysis on their players. But it’s more about sticking to our process so if we play our best game, we believe we are capable of winning,” he noted.
After a tough couple of games, what are Tim David’s goals for the season?
“I think it is to be a better player than what I was when I got here. I want to try to make the most of the environment that MI has provided and there have been some great opportunities for me to learn. I want to put in some performances that can help us win games,” concluded David.
Tim David was eloquent in his responses and we cannot wait to see how our plans shape up against KKR!
