MI become the first team to reach a century of wins in the IPL

Mumbai Indians became the first franchise to reach a century of wins in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after beating Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday. Mumbai recorded their first ever win in the IPL against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2008 and CSK were the team that’ll be a footnote on this historic occasion.

It was fitting that our 100th win came against Chennai as MI triumphed in the clash of titans between IPL’s two three-time champions. MI’s first title-winning season in 2013, in fact, saw us beat Chennai in the final in a campaign that saw us record 13 wins. Our title triumph in 2015 also saw us overcome CSK in the final for our 10th win of the season and our second IPL crown. The 2017 edition of the IPL witnessed us win 12 games en-route to our third IPL trophy.

MI’s owner Mrs. Nita Ambani expressed her delight and pride after MI became the first to 100 wins. “I've followed the journey from year one to year twelve. I'm proud of my team. I respect MS Dhoni as a captain the most. Whether we win or lose, it's always a special match against CSK,” Mrs. Ambani said. She was also full of praise for Mumbai’s passionate fans “Go east, go west - our MI fans are the best. I love the Paltan. They are actually our 12th man.”

Skipper Rohit Sharma spoke of the importance of playing positive cricket the MI way. “We were great with the ball and absolutely brilliant on the field - that's why we won the game. We want to play as Mumbai Indians - the way Mumbai Indians is known to play. We wanted to come out and play positive cricket. Right from ball one till the end of the match, we kept ourselves in the game,” Rohit said.

There have been many memorable moments and milestones over the course of the years but a few that are still fresh in the mind is our club icon Sachin Tendulkar’s first 100 for MI in 2011. Another memorable occasion for Tendulkar in MI colours was him lifting our first IPL trophy in 2013. Skipper Rohit’s unbeaten 109 in 2012 was also an unforgettable memory. However, his captaincy which helped MI win IPL 2015 following a poor start to the campaign, remains his most incredible season with the team.

Kieron Pollard’s unbeaten 60 off 32 balls that led Mumbai to a competitive 148 from 52 for 4 in the 2013 final against CSK, remains one of the best knocks under pressure by an MI batsman. The leading wicket-taker (157) in IPL history, Lasith Malinga’s also been a part of our journey since the start and is still proving to be pivotal to our bowling unit in this season.

Coincidentally MI’s 50th win in the IPL also came against CSK, just like the 100th. Whether our next milestone comes against Chennai remains to be seen, but one thing that’s for certain is a century of victories is a memorable chapter in our journey together as #OneFamily.
