MI retain Rohit, Bumrah, Surya and Pollard ahead of IPL 2022
Mumbai Indians have retained captain Rohit Sharma, ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav among Indians. T20 cricket veteran Kieron Pollard was the sole foreigner retained prior to the auction.
It is with a heavy heart that we saw the Mumbai Indians’ Class of 2021 sign off, with only 4 players being retained by the team. Captain Rohit Sharma aptly put into words all of our thoughts. “Retention is always the toughest, especially when it comes to this franchise because we’ve got so many class players in our squad.”
“It is never easy to let the players go, knowing that they have added so much success to the franchise. I’ve always maintained that it was never about one or two players getting success for the franchise, it’s always been a team effort. Championships are always won together, and not by a single person.” Well said by the captain of the team that won two trophies in a row with a special group of people. We are thankful to players like Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Quinton de Kock, Trent Boult, and Krunal Pandya for always giving their all on the field and helping Mumbai Indians scale greater heights.
As the fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League approaches, the teams are gearing up for the mega auction. They get to retain only three Indian players at the most, two foreign players at the most, and a maximum of four players per team.
IPL will also get bigger with the addition of two more teams. The two new franchises, from Lucknow and Ahmedabad, will get to pick three players each from those in the pool before stepping into the auction for IPL 2022.
