MI @ SMAT 2024 - Surya shines, HP & Tilak continue to make merry
The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 is now in full swing and it would be fair to say the Mumbai Indians’ representatives are no short of some good cricketing action.
Ahead of the knockout stages, let’s have a look at how our Boys in Blue and Gold have fared towards the latter half of the group phase.
Matchday 4 | 29th November - Batters enjoy their time in the middle!
Our quartet of stars, Kung Fu Pandya, TV, Naman Dhir and Shrijith Krishnan starred in victories for their respective teams.
While Hardik’s 47 off 23 balls against Tripura powered Baroda to their fourth win on the trot, Tilak Varma’s third 50+ score in the SMAT 2024 guided Hyderabad to a resounding nine-wicket win over Bihar.
Punjab batter Naman Dhir’s pivotal 24-ball 41 helped his team win a thrilling contest versus Mizoram in the super over whereas Shrijith Krishnan’s entertaining 37 off 13 played an instrumental role in Karnataka’s eight-wicket victory against Sikkim.
Matchday 5 | 1st December - Maiden career five-fer for Naman Dhir
He can bat… He can bowl… Naman Dhir is a complete package!
Already in fine form with the willow, Naman भाऊ showcased what he can do with the ball as he revelled in the first-ever five-wicket haul of his professional career.
The fantastic display of spin bowling got Punjab back to winning ways with a seven-run win over Hyderabad.
Matchday 6 | 3rd December - Surya दादा, #AalaRe!
Paltan, what better than witnessing our Mr. 360° in full flow in his favourite format of the game… Yeah, we know that feeling!
Featuring for Mumbai in his first match of the campaign, he went about his business as usual, smashing 70 off 46 balls as the 2022-23 champions registered a 39-run win against Services.
Elsewhere, Tilak Varma fighting 34-ball 46 went in vain as Hyderabad faced a seven-run defeat against Madhya Pradesh. Satyanarayana Raju’s economical spell of 3.1-0-19-2 took Andhra Pradesh home by six wickets against Kerala.
Matchday 7 | 5th December - Bawa impresses with the cherry!
It’s time for some final preps for a handful of our players before they head to the knockouts of the SMAT 2024!
Raj Bawa rounded up the group stage with a 2/30 in his quota of four overs as Chandigarh scrapped past Odisha by two wickets to advance to the preliminary quarter-final, where they will be up against Bengal.
