“Mom made a snowman this morning back home, and it had an MI flag": Issy Wong

Our girls have done it yet again, Paltan. 3 wins in 3 matches. A truly MIghty and doMInating performance against Delhi, who for sure would have been shocked by the kind of crushing defeat they faced at the DY Patil Cricket Stadium on Thursday (March 9).

Kaptaan Kaur may have lost all 3 tosses, but it doesn’t seem to have made even the slightest difference. Our playing XI didn’t change either. We don't fix something that's not broken, right?

Saika "The Golden Arm" Ishaque, who picks wickets for breakfast, Issy Wong, who can do nothing wrong, and Hayley Matthews, who is on a planet of her own, ran through the DC batting line-up in a jiffy. And then with a paltry 106 to get, we completed the formalities with ease. It was Matthews and Yastika Bhatia who set the tone of the run chase, and with a handful to get in the end, Harman and Natalie Sciver-Brunt, with no further hiccups, took us home.

Perhaps the biggest threat for us was the DC skipper Meg Lanning. In the post-match press conference, Issy Wong shared how the team had planned to catch hold of this big fish. "I have not bowled that much to Meg, to be fair, but when I did bowl to her in the WBBL, we spoke a lot about having two points. She is strong in that area, but I guess she often kind of gives up chances. So, I was quite keen to go with that, especially as under lights it was swinging a bit, so it felt like it made sense to play to those strengths," she said.

Saika and Wong bowled well in tandem, and finally, Saika got the better of Lanning. Unlike the last few games, which have been high-scoring, the MI-DC clash quite unexpectedly turned out to be otherwise. "The pitch here has been good. The batters have enjoyed themselves, but I think there is something in it for the bowlers. As a quick, if you can nail the correct lengths, there is something in it for you, especially with the new ball. We saw today that it swung and did a bit off the seam as well," she added.

We have bowled out the opposition in all our three matches thus far. What has been our secret? Wong shared, "We have worked pretty hard as a group in training. We have been working out our plans and making the most of the kind of squad we have. We have got a diverse bowling attack. We have left-arm spinners, leg spinners, off-spinners, and different varieties of seam bowlers. We cover all our bases. We have the right bowlers bowling at the right batters. Harman has been fantastic in pulling the strings. It is nice that everyone has chipped in."

While she is enjoying her time in India, her parents are enjoying watching her play from back in England, and do well for MI just as much.

"My parents have been watching every game. It's been snowing back home. So, my mom made a snowman this morning, and it had like a Mumbai Indians flag."
