“The win against Delhi a much-needed morale booster” – Naman Dhir

Paltan, #MIvSRH it is up next. Need we say more?! It’s anticipated to be an absolute run-fest with plenty 🔥 in both batting units.

On the back of a thrilling win over the Delhi Capitals, we will take the field tomorrow knowing a second successive victory would do wonders for our chances to make it to the top four.

Ahead of the fixture, our batter Naman Dhir opined on the match-up and a season of mixed results so far.

“We take every match as a fresh start and we need to win more matches. So we are taking every match as our first game of the tournament and we want to win every match. So one match at a time for all of us.

“The win [vs DC] was much-needed and the way we came back in that match was incredible. Our fielders and bowlers were brilliant. So that was definitely a morale booster,” he said.

Talking about his role as a lower middle-order batter in the team compared to top-order in the domestic circuit, Naman Dhir revealed that his responsibilities were clear as soon as he was RTM’ed during the auction.

“My role is very clear. MJ told me that you will bat at 6 and 7. So I have been preparing myself mentally since then. And if we talk about Pollard and Hardik bhai, they always talk to me. The main thing in this role is how you can stay calm. So I am learning from them.

“If I fear failure in those circumstances, then it's very difficult for me to play those shots. The management has also told me that we will back you. Just go and express yourself and play your shots,” Naman said.

Furthermore, giving an insight into his growth as a cricketer, the right-handed batter credits the senior players for playing an instrumental role in shaping his career trajectory.

“As a cricketer, I have grown a lot because I have gained experience by talking to the players and I would say that as you keep playing IPL and keep talking to the players, you keep growing as a cricketer. I’ve been talking to them [Surya, RO, BOOM, HP] since last year. They have a lot of experience.

“I talk to them about what I can do in a given situation. Especially in my current role, I come in to bat at no. 7, Hardik bhai has batted there a lot. Pollard has also batted there a lot. Their experience is always useful to me in terms of how I can keep myself calm in such situations and how I can win matches for my team,” he concluded.
