Parthiv Patel bids adieu to all forms of cricket

After having scored 11,240 runs in first-class matches, 5,172 in his List A Career, and 4,300 runs in T20 cricket, Parthiv Patel has decided to hang his boots. His last international appearance for India was back in 2018 where they registered a scintillating victory over South Africa at Johannesburg.

The 35-year old shared a post on social media to announce his retirement as he thanked all his well-wishers for the support throughout his 18-year cricketing journey.

International debut at 17

Back in 2002, at the age of 17, Parthiv Patel walked out to bat at Trent Bridge against England on his debut. Not many knew that the wicketkeeper-batsman had been India's skipper in the recently concluded U-19 World Cup.

A youngster sharing space in the dressing room with legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid was in itself a huge honor. He scored a duck in the first innings but made his mark in the second innings where he battled in the middle for 60 balls alongside the tailenders to help India save the Test match.

In the Blue and Gold

Before the 2015 IPL season, Parthiv was picked by Mumbai Indians. The southpaw played a big hand batting at the top order and also had his best IPL performance so far scoring 339 runs at a strike rate of almost 138. MI went on to be crowned champions that season.

After a couple of years, he bettered his performance and went on to lead the run tally for Mumbai Indians in the 2017 IPL season. His aggregate of 395 proved to be crucial for the men in Blue and Gold as they registered their third IPL victory.

In the domestic arena

During the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy, Parthiv led Gujarat from the front and helped them win their first-ever title. In the Ranji final against Mumbai, he led from the front, scoring 90 in the first innings and a brilliant knock of 143 in the second innings to help his side achieve the target of 312.

It also went on to become the highest score by a player in a successful run-chase in the fourth innings of a Ranji Trophy final. He also managed to make an international comeback just before the season which may have surely boosted his spirits.
