Rishabh Pant’s maiden ODI ton and an impressive all-round show from Hardik Pandya helped India beat England by five wickets in third and final ODI at Old Trafford in Manchester to clinch the series 2-1.

India rode on Pant’s unbeaten 125 off 113 balls and Pandya’s 55-ball 71 to chase down 260 in just 42.1 overs.

Earlier, Pandya’s four-wicket haul and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s 3/60 helped India bowl out England for 259 in 45.5 overs.

The visitors were forced to make a change bringing in fast bowler Mohammed Siraj in place of injured Jasprit Bumrah while England remained unchanged from their previous match.

After Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to field, England got off to a dreadful start as Siraj removed opener Jonny Bairstow (0) and Joe Root (0) in the first two overs of the powerplay.

Jason Roy and Ben Stokes later stitched an impressive 54-run stand for the third wicket to resurrect the England innings. However, Pandya once again showcased his incredible all-round capabilities as he bagged the wickets of Roy (41) and Stokes (27) in quick succession.

With the hosts put under extreme pressure, England all-rounder Moeen Ali and captain Jos Buttler played sensibly in the middle overs to forge a 75-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

Meanwhile, Rohit’s decision to bring Ravindra Jadeja turned out to be fruitful as the Indian star all-rounder removed Ali for 34.

While England kept losing wickets at one end, Buttler played a crucial knock at the other end as he brought up his 22nd ODI fifty.

On the other hand, Pandya continued his impressive bowling spell as he dismissed Liam Livingstone (27) and Buttler (60) in the 36th over.

Craig Overton (32) and David Willey (18) added some valuable runs at the end before England were bowled out for a below-par score.

Chasing a tricky target in the series-decider, the Men in Blue were in sorts of trouble as they lost openers Shikhar Dhawan (1) and captain Rohit Sharma (17) in the first five overs.

India talisman Virat Kohli, who looked in decent touch, soon perished for 17 with the visitors struggling at 38/3 in 8.1 overs.

Suryakumar Yadav and Pant added another 34 runs for the fourth wicket before the Mumbai Indians star was also back in the hut for 16 off 28 balls.

Reeling at 72/4, Pant and Pandya played some counter-attacking cricket to bring India back into the game.

Under pressure, the swashbuckling duo put on a brilliant 133-run partnership to put the visitors in a match-winning position.

While Pandya was later dismissed for 71, Pant continued with his scintillating knock to bring up his first-ever hundred in the ODI format.

Without losing any further wickets, Pant (125*) and Jadeja (7) guided India to their first ODI series win in England since 2014.

Pant was adjudged the Player of the Match in the series-deciding ODI while Pandya bagged the Man of the Series award for his all-round performances in the three matches.

After clinching both the T20I and ODI series against England, India will lock horns with West Indies in a three-match ODI series starting on July 22.
