Rohit, Yuvraj interact on Instagram LIVE
During the ongoing lockdown, Rohit Sharma has made it a routine to engage with fans through entertaining live sessions on Instagram with fellow cricketers. After stints with Kevin Pietersen, Yuzvendra Chahal and Jasprit Bumrah recently, the latest guest on his Live session was none other than ‘Brotherman’ Yuvraj Singh. Both had a good discussion over various topics, right from Yuvraj sharing his experience with the Mumbai Indians' skipper to taking his quiz.
Here are some of the interesting points with regards to the live interaction:
Yuvraj's prediction
Rohit made his debut for India in 2007 and was also a part of the T20 World Cup-winning campaign. While the talented youngster played his part, Yuvraj was India's crusader with the bat in the tournament. The southpaw reminisced a prediction he had made back then and how Rohit had proved him right.
"You were 20 when you started playing for India and I have closely followed your journey from 20 to 30. I had made a prediction that the most mature cricketer out of this young lot would be Rohit and I'm luckily proven right. And it is great to see you level up."
Yuvraj lauds Rohit's transition
Rohit began his career as a middle-order batsman before a chance to open the innings changed his career significantly. Yuvraj highlighted the same and asserted that it was the experience which helped him take his game to the next level.
"When you were playing in the middle-order, you scored some exceptional 70s and 80s and people used to say he played well. Then when you got an opportunity to play at the top, you started scoring 200s. So you've taken your game to the next level. So that happened after playing 7-8 years of international cricket."
Rohit acknowledged that experience plays a key part. The Indian vice-captain revealed how he keeps giving advice to the youngsters in the team and how they should play every game of their career as if it was their last.
"Exactly. I don't want the youngsters these days to lose out on those 7-8 years which is why I keep talking to them and make them understand the importance of experience. I tell them to try and keep their mindset as such that every inning you played should be the last one of your career."
Quiz Time
The most entertaining segment of the live session was when Yuvraj decided to quiz Rohit.
He began with asking the Indian opener about the date of the last Test match played by him.
The Mumbai Indians skipper took his own sweet time to realize it was the Pink ball Test vs Bangladesh. However, he got the dates wrong here.
Yuvraj then asked the 32-year old how many Tests he had played overall. Rohit made a wild guess between 32 and 34 as Yuvraj decided to give him the benefit of doubt.
The quiz continued as Rohit was absolutely spot on when asked about the number of Test and ODI wickets he had taken. This was followed by Rohit revealing his three nicknames - Ro, Hitman and Shaana. The third name was given by Zaheer Khan who is currently the Director of Cricket Operations for Mumbai Indians.
The funniest part was when Rohit was asked about his height in centimetres. While Yuvraj told he was wrong according to his source, Rohit cheekily mentioned that the information in Wikipedia was inaccurate because their offices were shut due to lockdown.
He further clarified that his height was 178 centimetres and 179 when his hair grew a bit which evoked laughter amongst them.
Rohit came close to predicting the number of runs that he has scored in the IPL but couldn't predict the last couple of digits. Yuvraj joked that he would've been eliminated if this was a quiz show.
He rightfully predicted his highest first-class score of 309 vs Gujarat. The final question was that of his engagement date and Rohit managed to hit a sixer here too.
Is Harbhajan Singh next?
Rohit vowed to try inviting former Indian and MI teammate Harbhajan Singh for a live session.
"The first question I'll ask Harbhajan Singh is which IPL team is his favourite."
Yuvraj told that Bhajji will get entangled between Mumbai and Chennai and end up saying both. Rohit responded saying he will ask him to pick one.
