MI at the T20 WC (week 3): Rohit, Hardik grab MoMs, Nabi grabs history

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is nearing its business end, with India grabbing the headlines thanks to our MI stars. Oh, and don’t forget Afghanistan’s super-emotional climb into the semis, which also had a solid MI touch. Here is a recap of what they have done in the last week. Read along.

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma, the dynamic opener and captain of the Indian cricket team, has had a stellar week at the T20 World Cup 2024. His leadership skills were on full display in the victories against Afghanistan and Bangladesh. However, his explosive batting performance (92 off 41 balls) truly set the stage for India's morale-boosting win over Australia.

Hardik Pandya

HP has turned all the noise around him to silence with his all-round performances in the Super 8 stage. Out of his performances this past week, what stood out is his match-defining unbeaten 50 and 1/32 against Bangladesh. The commitment of this performance would aid him to contribute a tidy 27* and a catch against Australia.

Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah, the master of precision and control, has been a key player in India's T20 World Cup 2024 bowling strategy. His six-wicket haul at an economy of 4.08 in the three games this week is a testament to his importance. His most economical spell by an Indian in T20 World Cup history (3/7 against Afghanistan) and timely interventions against Bangladesh and Australia have been instrumental in derailing their batting patterns, contributing significantly to India's success.

Suryakumar Yadav

It didn’t take much time for Aapla Dada Surya to show again why he is the top T20I batter in the world. He hit a match-winning 50 against Afghanistan, faced a challenging phase against Bangladesh, and then bounced back with a 16-ball 31 against Australia, showcasing the resilience and determination of a modern-day genius we know as SKY.

Mohammad Nabi

The Afghanistan star and his team are T20 World Cup semi-finalists for the first time in their cricket journey. And from Nabi’s point of view, his 1/1 against Australia is not just a turning point but a historical moment in AFG’s confident fight for a semi-final berth. And, in the hard-fought win against Bangladesh that created history, the all-rounder’s tight spell (0/15) helped keep BAN in check in a rain-marred do-or-die fixture, adding to the team's epic journey.

Tim David

Tim Bhau saw his second T20 World Cup campaign with Australia come to a halt at the hands of India. His final outing (against IND) saw him try to accelerate the late surge of the 206-run target, but he would fall short on 15 runs from 11 deliveries. Tim David ended the tournament with 61 runs at a strike rate of 148.78.

Romario Shepherd

Romario’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign came to a disappointing halt with co-hosts West Indies. The towering all-rounder was high on confidence, but luck wasn’t on his side as he saw his team fall to defending champions England. Big Rom completed his T20WC duties with a record - 49 runs and three wickets.
