Team India look to carry momentum
Plot:
It is simply going from bad to worse for Sri Lanka. They lost the Tests by big margins and have already conceded the ODI series to India. They are showing some fight, but it has not been good enough to win a game for them, so far. They need to do much more than what they are, at the moment. Team India, on the other hand, are enjoying success and looking stronger with each and every game. They have new match-winners who are stepping up and making sure they end up victorious.
Sri Lanka’s stand-in captain Chamara Kapugedera is doubtful as well for the upcoming game as he aggravated a back injury in the last match. Lasith Malinga will be standing in as a skipper, and is a wicket away from 300 ODI scalps. Malinga, who previously guided Sri Lanka to their World T20 title in 2014 will be looking to bring something inspirational out of this team. Two matches, two dead rubbers but these games will still mean a lot for the Lankan side who are struggling to find heroes and are unable to click as a unit. They have the potential to do so, but the Indian side has kept them under check. With injuries also disturbing their team combination, they are finding it quite difficult against an in-form team.
India will be looking to test out their reserves with the series in the bag. Even Kuldeep Yadav might return to the side and one of the other bowlers may be rested. Sri Lanka will look to salvage some pride and win the game for consolation, to say the least. Will they be able to turn the tide in the 4th ODI? Or will the Indian side continue with the winning momentum? Virat Kohli and co. look hungry for more success. If Sri Lanka don’t bring something extraordinary to the table, then it will be another victory for the visitors who are looking unbeatable in Sri Lanka.
Stage:
R. Premadasa Stadium:
The well-known Premadasa stadium will host the remaining two games on this tour. India have won their last three ODIs at this venue and would look to keep that winning run going. Traditionally, the Premadasa has offered surfaces that suit batsmen, and spinners to a certain degree.
Acts:
Shikhar Dhawan vs Lasith Malinga:
Sri Lanka’s latest stand-in skipper will be raring to go after India’s in-form opener, Shikhar Dhawan. The southpaw has had his fair share of troubles against Slinga in the past, and might look to go after Malinga early on, in the chase. Malinga will be scouting for his 300th wicket too.
Virat Kohli vs Akila Danajaya:
The spinner has been sensational in the last couple of games and Kohli has been quiet. The Indian skipper loves to lead from the front and would look to keep Dananjaya silent this time. The question is how?
Jasprit Bumrah vs Kusal Mendis
The promising Sri Lankan batsman has had a lean run in the series, so far. Jasprit Bumrah, on the other hand, is letting his ball do the talking and has picked up 9 wickets in the last two games. Mendis would look to dismantle the in-form Indian bowler and throw the pressure back at the Indians.
