WOOHOOOOO!!!! 2023 feels all over again! Aamchi Mumbai, an unstoppable juggernaut, and we are coming for you, WPL 2025! Clinical. Confident. Comprehensive. It just couldn’t get more complete. Every box was checked. Every peak was hit. And Mumbai Indians achieved a 7-0 sweep over the Gujarat Giants to storm into their second final.

A smash-a-thon

This Brabourne pitch just keeps getting belter and better. If you thought it would slow down after a few games, well, you’re in for a surprise. Yastika Bhatia was back to opening the innings, and along with Hayley Matthews, set the platform for a big one. And when Nat Sciver-Brunt walked out, the gears just shifted – from third to sixth in a jiffy. Both of them scored twin 77s, and the Giants were well and truly batted out.

Kaptaan Thor lands

It might have been just a 12-ball stay, but with two fours and four sixes smashed to pocket 36 runs, Harmanpreet Kaur was just tonking them for fun. From a possible 200, MI’s total suddenly jumped up to 213.  

Mooney c Hayley b Shabnim

Pace, late outswing, a flashy drive, a big outside-edge, a diving catch at first slip. Oh, we’ve seen enough of this all season. And tonight, this is where the game fell well and truly in our kitty. The Giants would have been banking on Beth Mooney to get them off to a flier if they were chasing this mountain down. Nah, Shabnim and Hayley weren’t letting her.

It just won’t take a side, would it! Hayley had it at the start, Amelia Kerr snatched it with a couple of wickets herself. Only for Hayley to reclaim it with the final wicket to fall in the innings. There was a bit of a fightback in the middle overs by the Gujarat batters, but these two Spin Queens just didn’t let a partnership flourish.
