WPL weekly star-tracker (June 24): Thor Kaur calls down lightning and thunder of sixes!
Oh it was a show at the Chinnaswamy. A run-fest, some crazy hitting, some real smart bowling, and in the end, an India-inflicted 3-0 sweep over the South African Women. And our MI girls absolutely lit up the stage. Who? How? What? Read on?
Kaptaan Kaur’s Sup-Harman show
She came, she didn’t waste time seeing, she smashed, she conquered. Harmanpreet Kaur, in a match-changing innings, smashed an 88-ball century against South Africa Women, and with Smriti Mandhana for company, led India to a massive total of 325 in their 50 overs in the second ODI at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. With nine fours and three sixes, it truly was an exhibition of brutal hitting. In the third ODI that followed, she came up with a measured 42, anchoring the chase and making sure India chased down the target without fuss.

Welcome the new death bowler in town, Pooja Vastrakar
Dial Pooja for smashing them at the death. And then dial Pooja for defending targets at the death. With 11 runs needed off the last over in the second ODI, nand both Nadine de Klerk and Laura Wolvaardt in good nick out there in the middle, aapli Pooja was handed the ball. The first ball was a single, the second a boundary, and the equation was down to South Africa needing six off four balls. But just when the game seemed to be slipping away from India, she struck, twice, in two consecutive balls, and then with a smart slower back of a length delivery, deceived Wolvaart to seal a famous win! Further, in the third game, she wasn’t needed with the bat, with her economical bowling continued to stand out, this time with the wicket of Sune Luus as well in her kitty.

Get back in soon, Hayley!
An illness ruled the West Indies skipper, Hayley Matthews, out of the ODI series against Sri Lanka Women. Her team really missed her presence though with the bat, ball and on the field, losing the series 3-0 to the Lankans, but our star is set to be fit in time for the T20I series starting on June 24, 2024. Can't wait to have you back soon, skip!
