“He’s pulling off shots I never did; he’s only going to get better”: AB’s 360-degree praise of SKY
‘The sky is the limit!’. This phrase was once used in the heydays of ‘Mr. 360’ AB de Villiers, and now, the Proteas legend wasn’t shy to pass on the baton to aapla ‘Mr. 360’ Suryakumar Yadav.
ABD, known for his funky batting and marathon-hitting skills across formats, had some words of praise for SKY on JioCinema’s ‘Home of Heroes’ show.
“I think it’s incredible. I think he’s pulling off shots that I never did,” de Villiers’ first reaction to the comparisons drawn between him and SKY. “When he gets going, it’s lovely to watch.”
What’s more! AB refused to believe this was the peak. “I think he’s got a long way to go still. I think there’s more to come. I think there’s even a better player in the future, so that’s very exciting.”
“His biggest challenge will be to be consistent in all the formats and to figure out his game in Test cricket, in ODIs and in T20 and understand how it works for him.I think he should actually just realise it’s all exactly the same. I do see a lot of similarities. He’s just going to be able to shift through the gears, and I mean, it’s incredible to watch.”
When you’ve managed to impress the big man, you know you’ve arrived. You know you’re doing something right. De Villiers, once the torchbearer of innovation when it came to batting, was happy to throw his weight behind SKY - the legend in the making.
“He can score all around the ground. And when he’s confident, he moves slowly and sets it beautifully upright. He gets the ball nice and late. And once you snap that as a batter, you realise that the faster the bowler gets, the more you’ve got to let it come, and that is really starting to click, and I think he has clicked that. So, the sky’s the limit. Excuse the pun.”
Paltan, this is enough reason to celebrate. It’s Supla time…
