CT25 group stage | BANvIND: SHAM-azing & GILL-orious start!
पहिला match, पहिला victory – Picture perfect beginning for Team India! 💙
The Rohit Sharma-led side got off to a winning start in the Champions Trophy 2025 by getting the better of Bangladesh by six wickets as Mohd. Shami & Shubman Gill starred with the ball and bat, respectively.
Although Bangladesh pulled things back in the middle overs of the first innings, our bowlers seemingly completed the job in the opening hour itself, with the Bangladeshi batters looking totally clueless in front of a potent bowling unit.
Wanna know how? Read on…
0/0 to 5/35 – Nusta rada in Dubai!
No way we were ready for this… 🤯
Once Mohd. Shami opened the tally on the last ball of the opening over, there was absolutely no looking back.
1/1 • 2/2 • 3/26 • 4/35 • 5/35
Yes, y’all read that right! We couldn’t have asked for a better start for sure as Shami and Axar bagged two wickets each alongside Harshit Rana’s solitary strike to torment the opposition batting department. 🔥
Rebuilding begins for Bangla Tigers
After a shocking start, Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali took the onus to get the Bangladesh innings back on track, courtesy of a mature game plan.
Instead of playing attacking shots, they steadied the ship by primarily taking singles and doubles, brewing a 154-run partnership in the process before Jaker Ali departed scoring 68 off 114 balls.
From 5/35 in 8.3 overs to 6/189 in 42.2 overs, that was some effort by the duo to get their team to a position where they have a substantial total to defend in the second innings. 👏
Meanwhile, Shami bagged his 200th ODI wicket in the name of Jaker Ali, becoming the fastest Indian to do so!

Bangladesh finish at 228/10
Towhid Hridoy’s brilliant century guided Bangladesh past the 200-run mark. His 100-run knock was laced with six fours and two sixes.
The Indian cricket team, arguably, would have hoped to bundle them out much earlier given the start they got. Nonetheless, Shami’s five-wicket haul gave them something to cheer about ahead of the chase.

RO & his love for ICC tournaments…
आपला Hitman firing in an ICC tournament? Well, we have seen that before!!! 🤩
Dealing only in boundaries, Rohit’s 36-ball 41 set the tone for the chase, with Team India well placed at 69/1 at the end of the powerplay.
Moreover, THE ROHIT SHARMA also completed his 11,000 ODI runs, becoming only the fourth Indian to do so. 💙

Shubman’s GILL-iant run continues!
Okay, first let’s have a look at his last 3 innings – 112, 60 and 87!
… And now the 25-year-old registered another terrific century (101* off 129) to extend his fine form and take the 2013 champions en route to the finish line. Maanla re, Shub!
The supporting role was duly played by the other middle-order batters in phases, with KL Rahul (41*) top-scoring among them.
Well, we all know what’s next 👉 A BLOCKBUSTER SUNDAY ft. 🇵🇰 🆚 🇮🇳! Time to avenge the heartbreak of 2017… LESS GO!
Brief scores: Bangladesh 228/10 in 49.4 overs (Towhid Hridoy 100; Mohd. Shami 5/53) lost to India 231/4 in 46.3 overs (Shubman Gill 101*; Rishad Hossain 2/38) by six wickets.
