Credit goes to the bowlers: JP Duminy
Delhi Daredevils became the second team after RCB to defend a total in Vivo IPL 2016 as they beat Mumbai Indians by 10 runs, to maintain their winning streak which continues for three games now. This thrilling match was fought till the very last over before MI finishing on the losing end. JP Duminy said, “With 50 required off 30, in this ground people would have backed the batting side especially with their line-up. But credit goes to the bowlers who have been working on their execution really hard; it’s good to see them come off.”
Delhi Daredevils have certainly turned things around for them this season with some exceptional performances. “The difference is the execution. Zaheer Khan did a great job with the execution. There have been a few new players in the team and the guys have put in the performances that we needed. Most teams have chased totals for their victory it feels good to defend the total,” said JP Duminy.
Duminy said, “It was a challenging score, we knew getting wickets up front would be the key. Fortune favours the brave as we got those run-outs but we knew we had to get those wickets to put a dent on their batting line up. The way Imran Tahir and Amit Mishra bowled in the middle overs was exceptional and the pacers backed it up perfectly at the end. For me, it was a clinical bowling performance. Yes, there is always room for improvement but we knew we could defend 164.”
Delhi has three youngsters in their ranks in the name of Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson and Karun Nair. Duminy mentioned, “The three of them are performing whenever given an opportunity. It is just about marshalling them around helping them wherever you can. I had a few more experiences, and I might know how to do deal with certain pressures. I feel that they read the situation and understand them very well. It is just a matter of getting wins under your belt and creating confidence amongst them and carrying on and capitalising.”
