DC clash to mark Rohit’s 150th IPL match for MI
After a five-day break, Mumbai Indians are all set to take on Delhi Capitals at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Mumbai Indians are coming off from a scintillating 57-run win over Rajasthan Royals. Delhi Capitals too emerged victorious by 46 runs in their previous game against the same opposition.
Both teams are on an active three-match winning streak in the ongoing season. It will be interesting to see which side manages to make it four-in-four on Sunday and consolidate their position.
We take you through some of the talking points ahead of the MI vs DC game.
Who will gain the edge?
Delhi Capitals are placed on top of the points table while Mumbai Indians are placed in the second position. The battle on Sunday night is likely to decide who will be at the forefront in Dream11 IPL 2020.
MI and DC have collided 24 times against each other with 12 wins for both of them. Their last encounter in 2019 was won by the men in Blue and Gold. The Pandya brothers had slammed 50 runs in the last three overs before the bowlers restricted DC to 128/9.
Abu Dhabi factor favors MI
MI have won three of their four encounters at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. With the team hotel in Abu Dhabi, they are also quite acclimatized to the conditions in the ground.
On the other hand, Delhi Capitals have lost just one game this season which happened in their lone match at Abu Dhabi. The Sunrisers Hyderabad had defeated them by 15 runs as Rashid Khan ran through their batting order.
Strong top-orders
Both openers Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma got off to good starts in the last game. They will look to get a big score. Suryakumar Yadav displayed his skills with the bat as he scored a stupendous 79*(47) against RR.
Delhi Capitals also boasts of a solid batting lineup filled with Indian cricketers. Shreyas Iyer has been the leading run-scorer for DC so far with a tally of 203 runs. Prithvi Shaw has also looked threatening with the bat with two fifties and a forty-odd score in six games. Shikhar Dhawan has got starts but failed to convert them into big knocks. Rishabh Pant too would be looking to get a move-on after five scores around the 30s.
Finishers in fiery form
With an unbelievable strike rate of 208.97, Kieron Pollard has been unbeaten in his last four innings. Hardik Pandya also displayed his valor with the bat last game. Together, they're capable of taking on any bowling attack and finish on a high for MI. Krunal Pandya is also capable of going bonkers when on song.
On the other hand, the duo of Shimron Hetmyer and Marcus Stoinis revived DC in the previous game after a top-order failure. Stoinis has been finishing well for them consistently while Hetmyer's form will keep the opposition bowlers in check during death overs. Axar Patel can also get into pinch-hitting mode if required.
Bowling match-ups
The pace bowling department has been MI's greatest strength in the tournament. The trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, and James Pattinson have picked 30 wickets between themselves so far. They have consistently executed their plans well and put the opponents under pressure. Rahul Chahar has also led the spin attack with precision taking seven wickets. The likes of Krunal and Pollard have also chipped in time and again.
For DC, Kagiso Rabada is not only leading the pace attack for them but is also the current Purple Cap holder with 15 wickets. His Protea teammate Anrich Nortje has also bowled well in tandem with eight wickets to his name. The likes of Stoinis and Harshal Patel have also kept it tight with the ball. Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel have kept the momentum going in the spin department and have also been quite economical.
Approaching milestones:
- Rohit requires 61 runs more to complete 4000 runs for MI in IPL
- Pollard requires 82 runs more to complete 3000 runs in IPL
- Krunal requires 73 runs more to complete 1000 runs in IPL
- Boult requires 2 wickets to complete 50 wickets in IPL
Players to watch out for:
Ishan Kishan: The wicketkeeper-batsman began his Dream11 IPL 2020 campaign with a storm against RCB where he scored 99 (58). However, Ishan Kishan wasn’t able to replicate the same performance in the next few games. He will be keen to prove a point with the bat against Delhi Capitals.
Krunal Pandya: The all-rounder hasn't been at his usual best in the ongoing IPL so far. Krunal Pandya couldn't get going in the last match despite being promoted above in the batting order. He will look to make it count against DC. The left-handed batsman's highest individual score of 86 (37) came against the same opposition back in 2016. Krunal will also aim to be amongst the wickets.
