England secured a 100-run victory against India at the Lord’s Cricket Ground to draw the three-match series level at 1-1.

Reece Topley’s record-breaking six-wicket haul (6/24) helped the hosts bowl out India for 146 in 38.5 overs. Topley’s exploits overshadowed Yuzvendra Chahal’s 4/47.

India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first. Virat Kohli was the only significant change in the playing XI as he came in for Shreyas Iyer. On the other hand, England opted for the same playing XI from the first ODI at The Oval.

England registered a powerplay score of 46-1, with Jason Roy dismissed for 23. Jonny Bairstow hit a run-a-ball 38 to help England go past 50. Following his dismissal, the hosts saw the trio of Joe Root (11), Ben Stokes (21) and skipper Jos Buttler (4) fail to make a significant impact with the bat.

A 46-run stand for the sixth wicket between Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone got England close to 150 in 29 overs. Livingstone departed for 33, which enabled another crucial partnership for the hosts to cross 200 runs in 39.4 overs.

Moeen Ali, who stitched a 62-run stand with David Willey, fell short of a half-century as he lost his wicket at the end of the 42nd over. His patient innings of 46 in 67 balls helped England put pressure on the Indian pace attack of Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna.

Willey took a cue from Moeen and slammed a 49-ball 41 before he would be dismissed in the 47th over. The hosts ended their innings at 246 all out in 49 overs.

Yuzvendra Chahal finished as the best bowler for India with a haul of 4/47 in his 10 overs. It is the best figures by an Indian bowler in an ODI at the Lord's Cricket Ground.

India’s chase of 247 got off to a panicky start as the Men in Blue slumped to 31/4 in 11.2 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant failed to put any runs on the scoreboard, while Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli could only manage scores of 9 and 16, respectively.

Hardik Pandya revived the Indian batting order with a 42-run stand with Suryakumar Yadav and a 28-run partnership alongside Ravindra Jadeja before Moeen Ali dismissed him for 29.

Mohammed Shami played a small cameo with 23 runs of 28 balls, which included two boundaries and a maximum.

Reece Topley put the finishing touches to England’s 100-run victory by taking Yuzvendra Chahal and Prasidh Krishna’s wickets in the last over of his spell.

Topley’s match-defining performance of 6/24 saw him register the best-ever figures by an England bowler in ODI cricket.

England and India are now level 1-1 in the three-match ODI series, with the series decider to be played at Old Trafford on Sunday, July 17th.
