This is the moment. Rewind to 2010. A young, recent superstar, all-rounder, big-hitting, hard-seam bowler, tall, muscular, exciting. Now come back to 2023. The legacy of Kieron Pollard, will be carried on, through Cameron Green!

Oh, and it was absolutely intense. Just to put things into context, and perhaps break the suspense as well, this is Mumbai Indians’ most expensive buy EVER in an IPL Auction. Also, to put things into some more context, this is the second-most expensive buy in the IPL. At 17.50cr INR, as his first IPL home, he is a certified Mumbaikar.

So here’s how it went: RCB raised the first paddle at 2cr INR. We hopped on immediately for a two-way war until the 7cr INR mark. Bangalore dropped off, the Delhi Capitals jumped in, and right until the end, raising the 23-year-old’s value, bid by bid, 25 lakhs INR by 25 lakhs INR. With a total purse of 20.55cr INR, and possibly nine slots to fill, just the fact that we were unstoppable, even at 17.50cr INR, should tell you how much the think-tank values this young gun.

“Green is someone we’ve tracked for 2-3 years and we thought he’s exactly what we needed. He fits the right age profile for us; we’ve been looking for younger players for a few auctions,” said Akash Ambani.

“It was intense bidding, but really happy that we ended up winning that little battle. Cameron is a good all-rounder and is going to fit into the MI setup really nicely, not only for now, but even for the future. That was our biggest focus as well, looking at the future. He is going to strengthen our side in a big way and we are ecstatic,” said Mark Boucher, the MI Head Coach.

“I’m pinching myself that this has all happened. It’s such a weird feeling watching an auction for yourself. I can’t believe how nervous I was and I was shaking like anything when the final call was confirmed. I’ve always been a huge fan of the IPL and it’s going to be so cool to be a part of it. The Mumbai Indians are one of the powerhouses of the competition so I feel very humbled to be joining them. I can’t wait to get there next year,” said the man of the moment, Cameron Green.

Get ready Paltan, deck up the Wankhede, and keep yourselves safe along the Marine drive. It’s going to rain sixes again!
