T20Is - Houn jaau de!

The Men in Blue, led by our very own Surya Dada, are all set to take on the Bangla Tigers in a three-match T20I series beginning October 6, 2024.

With the Test series already under the belt, the current world champions will look to extend their fine run of form in the shortest format of the game. Ahead of the upcoming T20Is, here’s a sneak peek into the most enthralling T20Is contested between the two Asian counterparts.

Group Stage, T20 World Cup 2014

The 2007 world T20 champions got the better of the hosts by eight wickets in a comfortable victory, thanks to yet another terrific knock by Mumbaicha Raja Rohit Sharma!

Bangladesh could manage only 138/7 in 20 overs, which proved to be a cakewalk for the Indians as RO (56 off 44) and Virat Kohli (57* off 50) completed their respective fifties before MS Dhoni concluded in style with a superb maximum to make it three wins on the trot.

Super 10s, T20 World Cup 2016

Paltan, ready to time travel to that final over by Kung Fu Pandya?

Put in to bat first, Team India managed to muster a paltry 146/7 in their quota of 20 overs.

Fast forward to the final over of the encounter. The then captain MS Dhoni entrusted Hardik Pandya to defend 10 runs off the final over and our skipper delivered the goods!

Conceding nine runs off the first three balls, the all-rounder then pulled off the unthinkable by picking up two wickets in as many balls and then bowled that all important dot ball to help his side pull off a heist by registering a one-run victory.

Final, Nidahas Trophy 2018

An intense summit clash between the two sides ended with another silverware in India’s trophy cabinet!

With a target of 167 in sight, RO began with his tod fod to score a 42-ball 56 to set the tone for the chase. By the end of 18 overs, Team India still needed 34 runs.

In came Dinesh Karthik, who wasted no time to settle in, smashing 22 runs off the penultimate over to bring the equation down to 12 off the final over. With Vijay Shankar departing on the second-last ball, India needed five runs to win it.

The wicket-keeper batter hit a flat six to complete a memorable win for the Men in Blue, which would eventually go down as one of the best T20Is to be witnessed by the cricket fraternity.

Group stage, T20 World Cup 2022

Another global competition, another edge-of-the-seat thriller!

Batting first, the Rohit Sharma-led side left no room for error to amass 184/6, with our very own SKY playing a typical 16-ball 30 knock in addition to half-centuries by Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.

Bangladesh began the chase on a positive note, racing to 66/0 in seven overs before rain interrupted the proceedings. What followed next was a classic India comeback!

With the revised target reading 151 in 16 overs, Bangladesh looked well on course for the win, but our bowlers had other ideas. Some brilliant bowling coupled with timely wickets restricted Bangladesh to 145/6 as Team India won the clash by a close margin of five runs (DLS method). Hardik Pandya bagged the last two wickets to make the victory sweeter!
