Hitman Named India’s Captain in ODI’s
Change of the Guard at the Helm
It’s time to make some serious noise, Paltan! Our captain and talisman Rohit “Hitman” Sharma has been named India’s ODI skipper after being handed over the T20I duties ahead of last month’s series against New Zealand. Virat Kohli announced his intention to step down after the T20 World Cup and the BCCI’s selection committee have named Ro his successor.
Hitman’s Record as a Skipper so far
Ro has lead India in ODI’s 10 times so far with 8 wins and a win percentage of 80%. Moreover, his batting average rises to a stunning 77.57 when he leads as opposed to 48.96 overall.
Rohit’s captaincy is seen as nurturing especially towards youngsters. He has a tendency to give players an extended run in the team even during bad form spells thus instilling confidence in them that pays off in the long run. His tactical know-how is second to none having won a record number of IPL titles as skipper. What experts find most admirable however is his relaxed attitude and calming nature which which takes pressure off the players in his ranks.
It is an exciting period for Indian cricket. The T20 World Cup in Australia will be held in less than a year’s time and we’ll go there under Ro’s leadership. Let’s hope this new era of captaincy in the short formats begins with us winning an ICC trophy to set the tone going forward.
