“Huge confidence boost when Rohit told me I could be an all-format player”: Tilak Varma

By Mumbai Indians

It might have been a slightly disappointing tour of the West Indies so far in the T20Is if you are an Indian fan. Take Tilak Varma out, and it could’ve been a lot worse. On debut, playing some of the most audacious shots you’d imagine on pitches where practically everyone else struggled, he’s been a revelation.

We, the Paltan, aren’t surprised one bit. Over the last two years in the IPL, we know the trust we put on him. We’ve seen his rise. We have seen him trample bowling attacks. And our skipper, Rohit Sharma, knew when he’d seen a gem.

“My inspiration has been Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma. I spend more time with Rohit bhai. In my first IPL, he had told me that Tilak you are an all format cricketer. It boosted my confidence. His guidance has been massive for me,” Tilak told reporters at the end of the second T20I at Grenada after scoring his maiden fifty.

“Rohit Sharma has been a big support system to me. He always talk to me and tells me to enjoy the game.”

This is just the start. We are seeing a potential legend in the making, who gives the impression of batting on a different wicket with pure conventional shots. Let’s savour it ..
