India squad for T20 World Cup announced, six names from Mumbai Indians

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the names of the players who have made the cut to India’s T20 World Cup squad.

The tournament is set to begin on 17th October 2021 across venues in UAE, the schedule to which was announced less than a month ago by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The 15-member squad includes six members from the Mumbai Indians team - Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Rahul Chahar and Ishan Kishan. Rohit Sharma has been named the Vice Captain.

The squad, captained by Virat Kohli, looks as follows:

Virat Kohli (C), Rohit Sharma (VC), KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami.

Furthermore, Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar have been named as reserve players for this squad.

Among the Mumbai Indians players, Rohit Sharma has been a part of all six T20 World Cups so far, and will be playing his 7th. Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah have played one T20 World Cup, the 2016 edition, previously, and Suryakumar Yadav, Rahul Chahar and Ishan Kishan, all three have been named in a World Cup squad for the first time.

Further, India’s former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been named as the mentor for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
