INDvENG, 3rd ODI: Whitewash complete… CT25, here we come!

By Mumbai Indians

3-0 whitewash = 𝘈𝘮𝘥𝘢𝘷𝘢𝘥 𝘮𝘢𝘢 𝘫𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘥𝘪 𝘨𝘢𝘺𝘢! 🕺💃

A batting exhibition followed by disciplined bowling helped India overcome England by 142 runs in the third ODI & head into the Champions Trophy 2025 with a magnificent victory.

The second innings was all about both teams performing in phases before the hosts upped their ante and took the game away in the middle overs.

Here’s the performance breakdown of the final match of the series… 🤓

GILL-ty of a cracking knock!

Shubman Gill’s purple patch continued with yet another terrific innings, scoring a finely crafted 112 off 102, including 14 fours and three maximums.

Having already recorded two successive fifties, the 25-year-old went one step further in what was an exhibition of some fantastic shots! 🔥

In the process, the right-handed batter became the fastest to 2500 runs in ODIs, reaching the milestone in just 50 matches.

He, along with Virat Kohli, kept the scoreboard ticking, accounting for a superb 116-run second-wicket partnership. 🤝

Kohli on the charge!

A 55-ball 52, laced with a handful of his ™️ cover drives, brought joy to the fans and the dugout alike.

Hitting seven fours and a six, the veteran completed his record-extending 73rd fifty in ODIs, the most among active cricketers.

IYER we go again!

Just another day in the life of Shreyas Iyer, isn’t it?! 😉

After his half-century in the first ODI, the middle-order batter revealed that he got a chance in the Playing 11 at the expense of Virat Kohli’s injury. Safe to say, he has grabbed the opportunity with both hands!

Coming in when his side was comfortably positioned at 122/2 in 19 overs, Iyer didn’t take a defensive approach and played his natural game, amassing 78 off 64 balls, striking at 121.88.

At the 40-over mark, the scorecard read 275/4.

Team India finish at 356/10

Courtesy of KL Rahul’s steady 40 off 29 and handy contributions from the lower-order batters, the Indian cricket team crossed the 300 run-mark in the 43rd over and concluded strongly towards the end.

Furthermore, this was India’s 23rd 300+ total in ODIs since the World Cup 2019, the most by any nation! 💪

England begin the run chase positively

With an enormous target in sight, English openers Ben Duckett and Phil Salt came out all guns blazing, dealing only in boundaries.

However, Arsh paaji stepped in to bag two wickets as they stood at 84/2 at the end of the powerplay.

Bowlers bowled like a WOW!

Barring the opening act, Tom Banton’s steady 38 off 41 and a Gus Atkinson cameo, none of the batters really got going thanks to a dazzling effort by our bowlers. 👏

From 126/3 to 214/10, the Englishmen failed to put up a challenge as Indians enjoyed a great day on the field ahead of the all-important Champions Trophy 2025, which begins on February 19.

Brief scores: India 356/10 (Shubman Gill 112; Adil Rashid 4/64) beat England 214/10 (Gus Atkinson 38; Axar Patel 2/22) by 142 runs.
