DC vs MI Blog: The Capital clash, as it happened

By Mumbai Indians

Aala Re!!! Aala Re Aala!! Our first win of the season is here. The gutsiness of Jason Behrendorff, the masterclass of Piyush Chawla, the blitzkrieg of Rohit Sharma and the match-winning cameo of Tim David. All combined to gift the MI Paltan the result they all waited for - VICTORY.

As we take off to celebrate this win, we would love to see your post-match reactions in the comments, Paltan. We will be back in action on Sunday, as we host the Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium.

Goodnight and goodbye.

Paltan ki awaaz!

IT IS FINISHED

2 runs.... 1 ball. How many times have we been here?

It all started with a change of bat. Tim David dished the ball towards deep mid-off, and when then threw himself to complete the second run. Review taken for Porel's run-out attempt? The result? Let's say it together... in one voice.... NOT OUT!

The 19th over drama 2.0

While we were ruthless with the ball in the 19th over of the first innings, the Green-David combo brought the equation from 20 required off the final 12 balls to 5 runs from six balls. How? 1..0..1..6..1..6.

HOW IS THE JOSH, PALTAN?

A RO-aring knock ends

Rohit Sharma put his heart out on the field, and he warmed the hearts of not only the MI fans but also the DC fans. We believe so.

Our captain hit 47 runs in his first 23 balls, one that rolled back the years knowing what the 'Hitman' can do. But his attempt to guide a Mustafizur Rahman delivery towards the third man ended with Porel taking a one handed catch.

Back-to-back wickets

Double heart-break for us, truly we say. Tilak Varma's ambitious innings - filled with four maximums and one six - was hit towards Manish Pandey at deep mid-wicket. SKY, the next batter, saw his evening turn from bad to worse as he was dismissed for a duck.

We are crying tears (of joy) too!

Oh captain, my captain!

After 25 IPL innings, the wait has ended. Rohit Sharma. An IPL Fifty.

Yes, you heard it right. The Hitman took 29 balls to reach his 41st half-ton in the competition. Well, we will say no more now.

Oops.. a misunderstanding and a run-out

While our skipper wanted a run, Ishan didn't. In the end, the 'Pocket Dynamo' was run-out. The opener walks back with a disappointed face. The first blood drawn by the opposition.

Who did it better?

A sneak peak into Hitman: The Pull Shot diaries

Runs are available at a premium of 14 runs per over

'Hitman' Rohit Sharma and 'Pocket Dynamo' Ishan Kishan started the run chase do-MI-nantly, helping the team reach 50 in just 4.2 overs.

Pull shots, sweep shots, cover drive, quick running between the wickets. All contributing to the first 50-run stand between our openers in IPL 2023.

Intermission

Five wickets in the last ten balls of Delhi Capitals' innings, Piyush Chawla and Jason Behrendorff's electric bowling, David Warner and Axar Patel's fifties, the ground-breaking crowd support. The first half of this DCvMI clash wasn't short of a TV drama.

What do we have here? A 173-run target.

The cast? Mumbai Indians' batters

Paltan, can we chase this? *voice slowly rises* YES.

Stay tuned for the second innings.

That 19th OVER in a tweet

However.....

Jason Behrendorff completed his redemption, four times in return.

Two brilliant catches, one to end an Axar-ilarating innings [54(25)] and David Warner's stay [51(47)], one run-out (Kuldeep Yadav) and Abishek Porel.

A W 1 W W 0 W-onderful over this.

A missed catch.... at a cost

Axar Patel sliced a Jason Behrendorff towards Aapla Dada Surya at long-on. However, the ball slipped away from his hands but not before giving a freaky hit to his face. Hopefully, SKY is okay.

MILESTONE ALERT

Bowl a ball... wobble....wobble... ball clicks the stump... batter castled.

That is the Wikihow guide to bowl like Piyush Chawla, especially tonight. A Wrong'un shot selection from Lalit Yadav and a third scalp for Piyush to grab his 250th T20 wicket in India.

Piyuuuuuuush!

A wicket and a catch attempt minutes later, Piyush Chawla is showing us that his socks are not filled with dust. Paltan, let us know your assessment of the seasoned star's performance so far.

Nehal Wadhera got us fans like....

He came, he saw... and disappeared

Yash Dhull's debut was quite short-lived, thanks to a leap of faith from Nehal Wadhera. Wadhera ran across to his left from deep square to make sure Riley Meredith capped his MI return with a happy smile.

Delhi la Piyush chawlaa!!

Spin instructor Piyush Chawla made Manish Pandey his bunny, as the batter sliced the ball into the safe hands of Jason Behrendorff. Piyush saaheb is now two wickets away from 250 T20 wickets, just so you know. Can he do it tonight?

Paltan ki awaaz

Powerplay charcha!

We have bowled six overs, with दिल्ली rallying their way to 51/1. David Warner and Manish Pandey revive their batting partnership from their SRH days, following the early dismissal of Prithvi Shaw.

Meanwhile, our young star Hrithik Shokeen has shown glimpses of his match-winning quality with the ball. Time to back him, Paltan!

A Shaw-k for Delhi, A Shokeen start for Mumbai

Hrithik Shokeen trapped Prithvi Shaw into his spin web, forcing the Mumbai-born DC opener to sweep the delivery towards Cam Green at square leg. The START we all have waited for.

DC's PLAYING XI: David Warner (Captain), Prithvi Shaw, Manish Pandey, Yash Dhull, Rovman Powell, Axar Patel, Lalit Yadav, Abishek Porel (Wicket-keeper), Anrich Nortje, Kuldeep Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman
