Ishan Kishan’s double ton drowns Bangladesh in the final ODI
Read it in Hindi.
Read it in Marathi.
Ishan Kishan, who replaced Rohit Sharma in the final ODI, turned into a baby-faced assassin. The Paltan opener became the fourth Indian to score a double century in limited overs cricket as India registered a comprehensive 227-run win against Bangladesh.
Batting first, Ishan's masterful 210 off 131 deliveries, which included 24 boundaries and 10 sixes, took India to 409/8 in 50 overs. Virat Kohli assisted the 24-year-old with a terrific century, which was his first in ODIs since August 2019. In a bid to match up with the huge required rate, Bangladesh kept losing wickets at regular intervals and got bowled out for 182 runs.
The star of the day, however, was Ishan Kishan, who made the first innings appear like a refurbished tape of “Chain Kulii ki Main Kulii”.
Ishan Kishan’s “Dhaga Khol Diya” day
After Shikhar Dhawan’s early dismissal, Ishan and Kohli took a short while to ease themselves but once the duo settled in, they went about their business as if the next ball was the last ball they would face in their life.
Kohli, who was dropped at mid-wicket early on in the innings, took a backseat and enjoyed Kishan’s onslaught from the non-striker’s end. Kishan brought up his first ODI hundred in the 24th over. Just four overs later, he was past the 150-mark.
Just a moment, counting the records broken by Kishan!
With a single towards covers in the 35th over, the pocket dynamo converted his maiden century into a double century. Not to forget, this is the first time a batter brought up his double century in ODIs before the 40th over in this format.
Kishan became the youngest cricketer to breach the 200-mark and the fourth overall among Indian batters. The other three Indian batters - Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma, had scored their double centuries in India, and he became the first Indian to score a double century away from home. This was also the fastest double century scored in ODIs. He went past Shane Watson’s 185 in 2011 to register the highest individual ODI score in Bangladesh.
*Takes a deep breath*
Three of the four Indian double centurions in ODI cricket won an IPL trophy with Mumbai Indians. Martin Guptill, the only New Zealander to score a double ton, also featured in the Paltan jersey back in 2016.
So four of the seven double centurions played for Mumbai Indians (Just saying).
Kohli completes 72nd ton, India finish with a bang!
Virat Kohli, who played the second fiddle throughout the Kishan mayhem, brought up his 44th ODI ton in the 39th over, which was his 72nd in international cricket. He finished with 113 off 91 deliveries.
Kohli is now second in the list of most international centuries, surpassing Ricky Ponting. *claps, claps, claps*.
Axar Patel and Washington Sundar chipped in with crucial cameos in the death overs, which took India past the 400-mark.
Bowlers complete a comprehensive win
The target was always going to be a difficult one but Bangladesh did not shy away from going for the big hits. However, it led to their downfall as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
After Axar Patel cleaned up the top order, Shardul Thakur and Umran Malik ensured no batter got an opportunity to settle in. Bangladesh were bowled out for 182 runs in 34 overs, with all six bowlers picking up at least one wicket.
India won the match but, unfortunately, the series was already pocketed by Bangladesh.
