Jasprit Bumrah: Wanted to add muscle to my body in lockdown
The leader of the Mumbai Indians pace-attack, Jasprit Bumrah, is looking in good shape at the Dream11 IPL 2020.
He was impressive against KXIP, finishing with figures of 2/18 in his four-over quota. Getting the first breakthrough of Mayank Agarwal, he set the tone for the rest of the bowlers in the match.
The right-arm pacer who missed a significant amount of cricketing action last year due to his back injury has hit his stride. Due to the lockdown, he may have found it difficult to train but the 26-year-old continued to work hard at home and stay match-fit.
Speaking to MITV, Bumrah spoke about the break, his training routine and coming back to cricket after the huge gap.
Playing continuous cricket, you never get a break
"You feel refreshed and very happy when you come back after a long break. You enjoy it, you are eager again and start to enjoy everything. Playing continuous cricket, you never really get a break."
In 4-5 months, we never forget what we've been doing for 10 years
"We started playing cricket when we were 16-17. So, we’ve been playing cricket for almost 10 years. In 4-5 months, you’ll never forget what you’ve been doing for 10-11 years."
I didn't want to gain weight during the lockdown
"I was working on my body because I wanted to be in very good shape. When I wanted to come back, I didn’t want to gain weight, I wanted to add muscle to my body. So, all of these things I was looking on."
Getting into the groove slowly
"It was a good time for me to stay at home, get refreshed, work on my body, get some muscle mass up and work on the mental aspects of the game. Coming back to cricket, joining into the Mumbai Indians squad, started training back home, slowly getting into the groove."
Feels like you've just played a game yesterday
"As soon as you come into the game, you don’t feel a lot different. Because it feels like you’ve just played a game yesterday. It’s just that muscle memory kicks in and all those things come in and you start to enjoy and get into the groove."
