Magical night at Barbados, ft. MI quartet - RO, HP, BOOM, SKY

By Mumbai Indians

A moment of historic reckoning, a game of profound emotions, a day of a united nation exalting in singular praise and the end of an 11-year wait to win an ICC tournament - all this was made possible by the quadruple effort of India captain Rohit Sharma, the mercurial Hardik Pandya, the superhuman Suryakumar Yadav and the legendary Jasprit Bumrah.

Each of these players had a T20 World Cup campaign to remember with their performance, but they saved the best one for last. So, hope you are on board and join us in reminiscing how RO, BOOM, SKY, and HP chipped in at the most crucial moments of #SAvIND in the T20 World Cup 2024 Final.

Rohit Sharma

It has to start from the top. The Hitman got the first W into this fixture by winning the toss and opting to bat first, given teams batting first triumphed in 19 games out of the 32 previous matches played in Barbados. As always done for many years, Ro-HIT gave India confidence with consecutive boundaries in the second overs before his dismissal. But, it didn’t stop there. Rohit masterminded the bowling and fielding in the death overs - overseeing his brigade defend 30 runs in 30 balls.

Jasprit Bumrah

BOOM BOOM, who would be adjudged the Player of the Tournament, once again showed why he is a legend of the game and a feared bowler in the powerplay and death overs. Let’s take a closer look at his spell.

Over 1: 0-1lb-W-4-0-0

Over 2: 4-2-1-0-0-1

Over 3: 1-2-0-0-1-0

Over 4: 0-0-1-W-0-1

Bumrah’s game-defining third and fourth overs helped aid the dynamic charge of the Indian bowlers, which successfully triggered South Africa’s batting collapse at death.

Suryakumar Yadav

Aapla Dada Surya always scripts a moment of magic for India, whether it is with the bat or as a fielder. While his innings in the final was a short cameo, SKY made it count on the field - where he put his heart out to defend every run possible. His moment of absolute brilliance came in the final over. David Miller - known for his penchant for finishing chases in dire situations - smacked a Hardik Pandya delivery down south, but it fell short as Surya ran from wide long-off, clawed the ball with barely two hands, toppled it over the rope as he went, kept his feet inside the rope and lobbed the ball back into play to complete a dismissal for the ages. This meant that India was fractionally close to victory. SKY combined with HP again to get Kagiso Rabada out and thus kickstart the celebrations.

Hardik Pandya

Commitment. Confidence. BELIEVE. These attributes oozed out of HP all through the T20 World Cup Final. On the back of his splendid performances in the competition, Hardik continued the momentum with an exquisite display with the ball. His resilience and determination were evident as he took crucial wickets, turning the game in India's favour. His third wicket - Kagiso Rabada - sealed it for the Men in Blue as they would secure a seven-run victory and end their 11-year wait for ICC silverware.

Hardik’s two crucial overs summed below.

Over 17: W-0-1-1-1-1

Over 20: W-4-1b-1lb-Wd-W-1
