Mahela spells out Motera road map ahead of scintillating clash
The Boys in Blue & Gold are all set to take the field against the Gujarat Titans in their second TATAIPL 2025 match and the camp is brimming with excitement.
Ahead of the crunch encounter, which will also be our second successive game on the road, our Head Coach Mahela Jayawardene addressed the media, sharing insights on the preparations in the camp.
To begin with, MJ provided an update regarding pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s availability and his much-anticipated return from injury.
“He [Bumrah] is being examined on a daily basis. He's going through his program. So far everything seems okay, but there were no timelines given by NCA, so we'll wait on that,” he said.
Well, it’s no news that the landscape of T20 cricket has changed drastically over the past few months and the batters have enjoyed a gala time taking bowlers to the cleaners… And IPL has been no different.
On that note, Mahela praised our experienced bowling line-up, which holds the ability to contain the opposition batting unit on any given day.
“One of the reasons we bought a very experienced bowling attack is that they don't think like that. I think we have to segregate the venues and where the venues are. So I think we've got enough experience to understand how it works.
“Like I said, each venue and opposition throws us different challenges, and that's something that we will focus on. We see what happens in those venues, those particular opponents, how they play, but that's separate from what we have to face here,” he continued.
“That is how we plan and structure things, and once we get to that venue, once we see that opposition, that's when our plans come into play,” MJ concluded.
Meanwhile, the Mastermind also justified the selection of our young sensation Vignesh Puthur, who made a memorable debut last time out.
“Oh, just the skill set. Just the skill set. He's still learning. That's a good thing about him and we just felt that, whether it's the last game or whether it's the tenth game or whether it's next year, he was always going to play for Mumbai and he was ready to play.
“Given the combination that we wanted to play once we went to Chennai, we saw the wicket as well. And we felt that it was for his skill set that suited him and for him to play that game. Yes, it was unknown to us because he hasn't played, but I thought he held his nerves and played brilliantly. It's a learning process. He needs to start from ball one again, and he understands that.”
Right then, everything that Mahela said is absolutely spot on, isn’t it?! The boss is always right… 😌
In less than 24 hours time, the #GTvMI action begins and with only W on our minds, we are ready to throw everything we have. Let’s gooooo!
