New Squad Incoming!

By Mumbai Indians

We’re two days away from the much-anticipated 2022 Tata IPL Auction! The last auction of this magnitude took place in 2018. Paltan, as you all already know, at the end of the last season all the players were released from our squad, and in December 2021, our retentions were announced. The four players retained by MI were Captain Rohit Sharma, Ace of Pace Jasprit Bumrah, Master-Maneuverer Surya Kumar Yadav and the Clutch Kieron Pollard. Our management decided that they would form MI’s core for the foreseeable future.

Let’s summarise where we stand ahead of the 2022 Tata IPL Auction :

  • The When & Where:

The Auction will be held on the 12th and 13th of February in Bengaluru, Karnataka, from 11 am IST.

  • The Finances:

Our retentions cost us ₹52 CR. Since all teams have been given a total purse of ₹90 CR, that leaves us with ₹48 CR to fill the remaining 21 slots. There are a total of 25 slots out of which 8 are for international players.

  • The Players:

1214 players have been registered for the upcoming auction. First, the players will be sorted into 2 categories—capped or uncapped. Within this bracket, depending on their skillset they are separated into various pools such as Batters, Bowlers, All-rounders and Wicket-keepers. From these 1214 players, franchisees sent a list of players they’re interested in to the BCCI. The final Auction Pool is made based on the lists from all the franchises by BCCI. The said Auction Pool contains 590 players this year.

By the end of the auction, MI will have a completely new squad! But it will not be easy, as everyone wants the best of the very best for themselves. Hopefully, we will be able to get all our top targets and form a well-rounded squad. What does your dream MI squad look like, Paltan?
