On song MI look to post a win against depleted SRH

By Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians will meet Sunrisers Hyderabad in Delhi on Tuesday. Both the teams will be playing their eighth game in IPL 2021. The two forces will be coming into this game with contrasting history this season.

While Mumbai Indians have just come off a thrilling 219-run chase against CSK, SRH have little to rejoice about. They’ve won only one of their seven games and sit at the bottom of the table. While MI, having found momentum in the last two games in Delhi, will want to continue the same, SRH would be desperate to find two more points.

Ahead of the game, below are some talking points:

MI back to winning ways

After winning just two out of the first five games in Chennai, Mumbai Indians are back to their winning ways. Not only have they pocketed all four available points so far, but they’ve also done so by scripting convincing wins.

Criticised middle order’s timely firing

The MI middle order came under fire during the Chennai leg of the tournament due to a dull performance. However, after moving to Delhi, the conditions here allowed them to outperform themselves. Kieron Pollard, especially, has been brilliant, with that 87* (34) to take MI across the line against CSK.

SRH yet to find the right combination

The Sunrisers Hyderabad benched David Warner and gave Kane Williamson the captaincy starting from their previous game against RR. Warner was an integral part of the top order, and without him, the onus will be on Manish Pandey, Jonny Bairstow and Kane Williamson to fire. They scored 31, 30 and 20 each in the RR game, and will need to contribute more if SRH needs a win.

Bowlers had come to the party in the last SRH game

In the previous game against SRH in Chennai, Trent Boult and Rahul Chahar had picked up 3 wickets each to script an MI win. After having to defend 150, they pulled off a stunning 13-run victory, bowling the Orange Army out for 137.

Head-to-head statistics

The two teams have faced each other 17 times in the IPL. The win ratio is slightly distributed towards MI after the previous game, with the Men in Blue and Gold winning one more match than SRH.

The pressure is high on SRH too, given they have a solitary win, against PBKS, in the whole tournament so far.

With half of it done, both teams will fight it out tomorrow for the same goal but for different reasons - one to keep the momentum going and the other to kick-start their season afresh.

The second encounter between SRH and MI for IPL 2021 is scheduled for May 4th in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.
