Player break-up for VIVO IPL auction

By Mumbai Indians

10 years of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) saw a lot of players get closely associated with many of the franchises. Some players have been part of a team for the entire decade, while some others have played for over five teams. A big change is about to happen, once again in the VIVO IPL, as the massive auction looms on all the eight teams come 27th and 28th January.

The VIVO IPL 2018 Auction is just around the corner and we have the final list of players who’ll be going under the hammer in Bengaluru. The original list had over 1000 players, and has been cut down to nearly half the number. The auction will be spread across two days, with the event set to be the second biggest auction in the league’s history, after its first one.

Franchises have shown interest in as many as 578 players from the originally registered ones for the VIVO IPL Auction, and they will vie for the 182 slots which are set to be filled. 18 players have already been retained by the eight franchises. Without doubt, the number of Indian players in the auction outnumber the rest of the nationalities. 360 Indian players have made themselves available this season which includes 62 capped players and 298 uncapped players.

A host of players from various countries have also enrolled for the auction. 218 players from 12 different nations have thrown their hats into the ring which comprises of 181 capped players and 37 uncapped players, including two from Associate countries.

There are 36 players who have listed themselves under the base price of INR 2 crore. Of these 36, 16 are Marquee players, who have been exceedingly successful in the VIVO IPL and around the international circuit. Ravichandran Ashwin, Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Christopher Gayle, Ben Stokes, Kane Williamson, Glenn Maxwell, Joe Root, Mitchell Starc, Faf du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Shakib Hasan form the Marquee players’ list.

Earlier this month, our champion players Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya were retained, and the MI management will look to build a squad which will complement the three pillars of our team. With 47 crores still left in the purse, Mumbai Indians will look to go all in during the upcoming VIVO IPL 2018 Auction and build another strong squad with a bunch of match winners and seriously talented individuals.

This is how MI stands in comparison to the other VIVO IPL teams in terms of how much a team can spend during the auction.

Some of the teams haven’t retained the maximum limit of three players. These teams have a larger purse than the ones who have retained three players.

With plenty of star players and emerging talent up for grabs, it will be interesting to witness how things transpire at the VIVO IPL Auction and by 28th January, it will be clear as to who will be part of our growing MI family. Paltan, get ready for an exciting weekend!
