Domestic cricket giants Mumbai will take on Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy 2022 final at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru starting on Wednesday, June 22.

Led by former India Under-19 World Cup-winning captain Prithvi Shaw, Mumbai reached their 47th Ranji Trophy final after pipping Uttar Pradesh in the semi-final match on the basis of a first innings lead.

Under head coach Amol Muzumdar, Mumbai continued their dominance in the ongoing edition of Ranji Trophy, having thrashed Uttarakhand by 725 runs in the quarter-final to record the biggest win in First Class cricket by runs. Mumbai broke the previous record held by New South Wales in 1930, securing a mammoth 685-run victory over Queensland.

Earlier, Mumbai also topped the Elite D Group after they defeated Goa and Odisha while their match against Saurashtra ended in a draw.

On the other hand, Madhya Pradesh defeated Bengal by 174 runs in the other semi-final encounter to storm into the Ranji Trophy finals for the first time since the 1998-99 season. Interestingly, Madhya Pradesh’s current coach Chandrakant Pandit was the captain of the team back then.

Under the leadership of Aditya Srivastava, Madhya Pradesh earlier hammered Punjab by 10 wickets in their quarter-final clash.

During the group stage, Madhya Pradesh topped Elite A after beating Gujarat and Meghalaya while their match against Kerala ended in a draw.

Mumbai are the most decorated team in Ranji Trophy history, having won the title a record 41 times. Under former captain Aditya Tare, Mumbai last won the Ranji Trophy title in the 2015-16 season, beating Saurashtra by an innings and 21 runs in the final.

Even though Mumbai will start as favourites to claim a record 42nd title, Madhya Pradesh will look to bring their A-game to clinch their maiden Ranji Trophy title.
