Right-To-Match card: Our ACE at the IPL 2025 mega auction
Alright then… Retentions locked in. Mega Auction mode = ON!
Our five retained Boys in Blue and Gold - Kung Fu Pandya, RO, Boom Boom, Surya dada and Tilak bhau - have left us with a purse of ₹45 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction to be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
But wait… We also have one Right-To-Match card at our disposal! Now, our Paltan may ask whom we can use our all-important RTM card on?
The answer lies behind the number of capped & uncapped players that can be retained either through direct retention or via RTM card during the mega auction.

Since our team has already retained five capped players, the maximum number of capped players allowed per side, it leaves us with one slot for an uncapped player and hence, the RTM card can be used only on an uncapped player who was a part of #OneFamily in the 2024 campaign.
However, it’s not as straightforward as it sounds! There’s a small twist in the rules for the usage of the RTM card. So, what’s the new rule?
Consider a situation: Say Player A, a member of Franchise X during the 2024 season comes into the auction. The highest bid he receives is from Franchise Y of ₹3 crore.
Thereafter, should Franchise X choose to use their RTM card on A, Franchise Y will get a chance to increase his price to a desired level. Say, they choose a price of ₹7.5 crore. Now, if Franchise X wants him, they must use their RTM card and grab Player A at ₹7.5 crore, else, he goes to Franchise Y at ₹7.5 crore.
