MI vs KKR – Talking points

By Mumbai Indians

The two-time IPL champions faced each other for the second time this IPL. MI put on a tremendous display in both the bowling and batting department to do a double over KKR.
It was case dominance vs revenge! MI set out to ascertain their dominance/superiority over KKR by getting their second win. On the other hand, KKR wanted to avenge the home defeat that they suffered at the hands of Rohit Sharma and co. at Eden Gardens.

KKR got off to a flying start, thanks to a dropped catch of skipper Gautam Gambhir early in the match, by McClenaghan when he was on 8. Gambhir made the most of this second chance as he alongside Uthappa got KKR off to a flyer. They scored 59 runs in their batting power play, with Gambhir going on to make a personal score of 59.
It was a superb bowling effort from MI as they did well to pull the game back. After the start KKR got, MI did well to restrict them to a score of 174, in spite of the dropped catches. KKR were 116-2 after 13 overs and were poised for a huge total, but the MI trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell McClenaghan, and Tim Southee did a fantastic job to get MI back into the game.

Captain’s knock from the hitman meant that he kept his record of scoring against KKR intact. Rohit Sharma now has 665 runs against KKR, while no other batsman has more than 500 against them. Even though he kept losing wickets at the other end, he maintained his calm and composure to see MI through. Rohit’s knock of 68 from 49 balls consisted of 8 fours and 2 sixes.

Pollard’s blitzkrieg innings came at a point when MI needed someone to take control of the innings and accelerate their run-rate. The beast walked in when the score read 106-4 at the end of thirteenth over. Pollard bludgeoned everything that came his way into the stands. It was absolute carnage in the eighteenth over as Pollard finished the game by hitting Unadkat for 3 sixes. It was an awe-inspiring innings as it showed what effect one man can have over an entire team as he crushed the hopes of KKR fans with every hit.
