Paltan, we know the excitement is SKY high ever since the IPL 2025 mega auction dates and venue got announced… and rightly so, with a huge pool of talent awaiting their suitors.

So, let’s dive right into it, shall we? Here’s everything you need to know about our franchise in relation to the grand event which is just around the corner!

Spill the deets, please?

The two-day event, scheduled to take place on November 24-25, 2024, will be hosted at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Saudi Arabia. The hammer time starts at 1:00 PM local time, i.e., 3:30 PM IST.

Moreover, this is only the second time an IPL auction is being held on a foreign land after last year’s mini-auction, which unfolded in Dubai.

Who will run the show in the auction room?

Auctioneer Mallika Sagar would be at the helm of affairs for the second time running.

What’s the headcount for the player pool?

Initially, a total of 1,574 players signed up.

Following shortlisting, the final breakdown of 577 players, for the 204 slots available across franchises, are as follows:

Whom have we retained for the 2025 season?

Ahead of the upcoming campaign, our current squad comprises five retained players namely skipper Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma.

And how much is left in our bank?

Each team is allowed a total purse of ₹120 crore.

Hence, having spent a combined ₹75 crore on the five above-mentioned Boys in Blue and Gold, we will head into the mega auction with ₹45 crore in hand.

What’s our shopping limit this time?

Straight out of the rulebook, a team can have a squad size of 18-25 players, with 18 being the compulsory lower limit.

Therefore, our think tank will look forward to rope in at least 13 new players (to meet the minimum requirement of 18) and a maximum of 20 fresh recruits (to cater to the cap of 25).

Talking about the overseas player slots, our side can acquire the services of eight foreigners, as things stand.
