WPL weekly star-tracker (Dec 4): Queen Kong Wong, Amelia’s heroic WBBL act
There’s no break. Even before you can manage to get out of your WBBL jetlag, India and England are already locking horns in what is set to be a crackerjack of a series. Quick, dust it off.
Heartbreak for Aamchi Mumbai-Kerr in the WBBL Final
Defeats are hard, more so in a final, and even more so when the margin is just 3 runs. And sadly Amelia Kerr was on the wrong side of it. Chasing 126, she batted through the innings, dropping anchor and taking it deep as she kept losing wickets from the other end. Her unbeaten 32-ball 30 will unfortunately go down in history as those so-could-have-beens.
She was the star in the playoffs, bagging a Player of the Match award in the Eliminator thanks to a 32-ball 48 and 1/23, followed by a solid 23-ball 31 in the Challenger against Nat Sciver-Brunt’s Perth Scorchers. Nat- meanwhile – was her usual self, picking a couple of wickets, scoring a 36, but Kerr’s Brisbane Heat were just too good on the day.

India A vs Engand A – The Wankhede is ready!
Issy Wong and Jintimani Kalita sound the war cries. India A won the first (a thriller!), England A clawed back in the second where Issy – with her 35*(15) – was the difference in the end. Jinti squeezed in three overs for 23 runs in the one game she played. What won most hearts though, was their post-match jersey-exchanging sismance.

Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal T20 Trophy
Saika Ishaque: You just cannot keep her wickets column empty. The standout bowler for East Zone, she snapped up three wickets for 19 runs against North Zone, helping restrict them to an under-par total, something her batters chased down easily.
Priyanka Bala: Fellow East Zone batter, Priyanka was one of the beneficiaries of Saika’s wicket-taking spree, going hard in the chase of 113 against East Zone, with two fours in quick succession. She couldn’t quite give the finishing touches though, falling for a 6-ball 9.
Amanjot Kaur: 1/12 against Central Zone, an unbeaten 4-ball 2 against West Zone before the rain came down to wash the game out, and a lone-handed effort of 20 against East Zone in the same Saika game.
Yastika Bhatia: Two games, two solid knocks. This week’s been a fruitful one for our star, who as West Zone’s opener, slammed 11 fours in her knock of 54 against North East Zone, and followed it up with a more measured 32-ball 37 against South Zone, both in easy victories.
Humairaa Kaazi: She didn’t have a lot to do, aka, Yastika didn’t leave her with a lot to do. A 14-ball 17 against North East Zone and a 10-ball 10 against East Zone, she’s reserving her best for the final!
