WPL weekly star-tracker (Nov 18): Havoc Hayley time in the WBBL

By Mumbai Indians

Batting brilliance, bowling specials, and a heartbreak. We have some wholesome content for you this week from the world of women’s cricket as our MI girls continue making headlines Down Under. What’s happening, you ask? Who’s doing what, you wonder? No longer.

Hayley Matthews (Melbourne Renegades): Another week of pure all-round brilliance! She hit her peak against the Adelaide Strikers, first with a tidy spell of 2/28 as the rest of her team’s bowlers went for plenty, and then in the stiff chase of 186, with a stunning match-winning 54-ball 85, studded with 12 fours and two sixes. Even in the Melbourne derby, she kept her nerve with the ball, bowling through the crunch stages and sealing a tight nine-run win with another two-wicket haul.

 ******

Amelia Kerr (Sydney Sixers): Wickets, and more wickets. The Brisbane Heat were off to a solid start, but Aapli Mumbai-Kerr – with a four-wicket-haul – got the Sixers right back in the contest, skittling out the middle and lower order. She then followed it up with a three-fer against Thunder in the Sydney derby, keeping them to just 121. Alas, rain had the last laugh!

 ******

Chloe Tryon (Hobart Hurricanes): She didn’t have much to do this week in both the games she played in. She didn’t get to bat or bowl in the first match against the Adelaide Strikers, and then in the reverse fixture, got just a couple of overs with the ball, where she did a decent job with figures of 0/11.

 ******

Yastika Bhatia (Melbourne Stars): A couple of quick starts, but sadly, not quite the conversion she’d have liked. In a stiff chase against the Renegades, she set the tempo up top with a couple of boundaries, but couldn’t kick on. It was a similar tale against the Brisbane Heat as well, but knowing Yasti and her penchant for the big scores, be prepared for something huge in the coming week!

******

Shabnim Ismail (Sydney Thunder): Her love affair with the Australian conditions refuses to slow down. In both games she got to bowl in, she’s snapped up a couple of wickets, including that of the dangerous-looking Sophie Devine in the game against the Perth Scorchers. It’s no surprise to see her side topping the table!
