WPL weekly star-tracker (Oct 2): Queen Hayley wins seven POTM awards in a row
If the last month was all about Nat breaking record after record, it’s Hayley Matthews taking over the mantle now. On the back of Kaptaan Kaur’s India Women winning the Gold at the Asian Games, there’s absolutely no break in our celebrations. Dive in, quick ..
Hail Hayley!
There are some records you know are going to be untouched in a long, long time. Hayley Matthews had won six Player of the Match awards in six consecutive games, and as if that wasn’t in the impossible territory already, she now has bagged her seventh. And with a stunner of a knock against the mighty Aussies – a 100 off 53 balls, finishing then with 132 off 64, leading West Indies to the highest chased total in women’s T20I cricket, 213! What more, she even picked up three wickets. Phew.
They say lightening doesn’t strike twice. But this is Hayley. This whole phase has been a lightening. In the previous game against Australia, she smashed a 74-ball 99 in the first innings, but alas, it wasn’t quite enough.

Consistency, thy name is Amelia
14 fours in her knock of 88, as she was the rock around whom the New Zealand was built in the second ODI on the tour of South Africa. Although it wasn’t enough for the White Ferns, she went a step ahead in the third ODI, smashing a hundred in the chase, knocking down SA’s total of 209, bagging the POTM, and getting some pride for her side after losing the series in the first two games.

Chloe Tryon completes 100 international caps
A ton for Chloe! In the second ODI opposite Melie Kerr, she didn’t need to bat as the Proteas Women hunted the White Ferns total down. In the third game, she added a calm 39-ball 25 after a middle-order wobble, forming a solid partnership with Marizanne Kapp as SA stumbled to 209. She was economical with the ball, squeezing out her nine overs for just 33 runs. Sadly for her, her MI team-mate Amelia was a just a tad too good on the day.
