The year was 2017. The opposition were Australia. The venue was the Derbyshire County Ground. The occasion was the World Cup semi-final. And what transpired out in the middle, was arguably the greatest ODI knock every played. Harmanpreet Kaur, in beast mode, shattered record books with a 115-ball 171*, and put women’s cricket in India bang on the front pages.
Born in Moga, Punjab, and growing up idolising Virender Sehwag, Harman made her international debut in 2009, and over the years, has grown into a true blue superstar of the game. She bats, she bowls, she fields in every position possible, she captains. She is the rock around whom the MI middle-order is built, and with her fiery character and shrewd cricketing brain, has instilled a steely attitude in the team.
She gave us Paltan our best moment of 2023, leading the Mumbai Indians to become the inaugural WPL champions! She is Kaptaan Kaur!
