Speed? He’s got it. Wickets? His favourite activity on the field. A warrior? That is in his name.
Sandeep Warrier’s ability to churn out knuckle balls and off-cutters for fun have made him a popular name in domestic cricket. Check out his 5/33 against Bengal in the 2018/19 Ranji Trophy, a game in which his 12 scalps empowered Kerala to their maiden Ranji Trophy semis. It was a domestic season he ended with a whopping 44 wickets from just 10 games.
What came after? A stint with Kolkata Knight Riders (two wickets, 2019-21), four years after a spell at Royal Challengers Bangalore (2013-15), a hat-trick in a 2019 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match (vs Andhra Pradesh), a switch to Tamil Nadu (2021-present) and subsequently, an elevation to the India ‘A’ and the senior India squads. His hard work in the nets paid dividends as he made his international debut against Sri Lanka (2021).
With 62 T20 wickets under his belt, Paltan! Get ready to see the ‘Warrior’, who has replaced our Boom Jasprit Bumrah, rumble through the opposition with his bowling and possibly build the path for MI to a sixth IPL trophy.
