About Kwena

Sharp pace, aggression, and an ‘I don’t know’ celebration when claiming wickets, isn’t this familiar? We are not talking about Jasprit Bumrah, but his new team-mate Kwena Maphaka.

Hailing from Johannesburg, the 17-year-old fell in love with cricket from the age of three thanks to his brother. And since then, it has been a meteoric rise that has seen this 17-year-old rise through the ranks. Still a scholar at St. Stithians, the prodigy has carved an impressive resume for himself - South Africa U19 team debut at 15, played two U19 World Cups, 21 scalps at the 2024 U19 WC - the most-ever by a pace bowler in one tournament, seven wickets in four matches at the CSA T20 Challenge 2024, and clocking speeds of over 140kph.

Now, under the tutelage of bowling coach Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah and Head Coach Mark Boucher, Kwena Maphaka is ready to write a new chapter to his budding career - one in Blue and Gold.
