India chase down 183 to wrap up T20I series

By Mumbai Indians

Shreyas Iyer starred with an unbeaten 74, his fifth T20I half-century, to help India chase down 183 and lead them to their 11th-consecutive win in T20Is.

Rohit Sharma, with 16 T20I wins in India, now holds the record for the most T20I wins at home by a captain.

India wrapped up the series against Sri Lanka with a game to go, their second series win in a week after whitewashing the Windies 3-0.

Here is how they did it.

Nissanka fifty powers Sri Lanka

Opener Pathum Nissanka scored 75 (53), hitting 11 fours to take Sri Lanka to a formidable 183/5.

India gave away only 32 in the powerplay but opener Danushka Gunathilaka broke the shackles with two sixes and a four off Ravindra Jadeja. However, Jadeja had the last laugh after dismissing Gunathilaka for 38.

Charith Asalanka, Kamil Mishara and Dinesh Chandimal fell soon after but Nissanka and skipper Dasun Shanaka, who scored a quickfire 47, hit a few lusty blows to take Sri Lanka past 180.

Shreyas Iyer stars in big chase

India lost both the Hitman and Ishan Kishan within the powerplay and were 44/2 in 5.1 overs. However, Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson resurrected the innings with an 84-run partnership in 47 balls.

Shreyas, in particular, was aggressive - smashing three fours in one over off Binura Fernardo and then taking Praveen Jayawickrama for two consecutive sixes. He brought up his second-consecutive T20I fifty in 29 balls.

After a slow start, Samson hit three sixes and a four off Lahiru Kumara in the 13th over but was undone by a brilliant one-handed catch by Fernardo at fly slip.

Ravindra Jadeja takes India home

Walking in at the fall of Samson’s wicket, Ravindra Jadeja hit a boundary off the second ball he faced. It set the tone for the back end of the innings.
Jadeja went on to hit five more fours and a six to finish unbeaten on 45 off 18 balls to win the match for India with more than two overs to spare.

India will eye another series clean sweep with their 12th T20I win on the trot, which would equal the longest winning streak in T20I history.

The third T20I will happen in Dharamsala on 27th February.
