MI vs KKR: Make it 9 wins in 10 games at the Wankhede - As it happened

By Mumbai Indians

We will be back in action on Tuesday, as we take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Goodnight and goodbye.

We hope your weekend was as delightful as it was for us. Paltan, let us know your post-match reactions after witnessing the MI-ghty performance of your favourite boys in Blue and Gold.

Our first home win of the season, and especially on the ESA Day! It couldn't get any better, right Paltan?

Cameron Green and Tim David, MI's Aussie besties, were at it again to complete the run chase. The duo ran their respective single runs to see off Mumbai Indians to a comfortable five-wicket win with 14 balls to spare.

Venkatesh Iyer's blitzkrieg 104 gave KKR some early confidence in the fixture, but Hrithik Shokeen's 2/34, Ishan's 58 and SKY's 43 engineered the 186-run chase with ease.

What else does this victory mean? Mumbai Indians have won SEVEN STRAIGHT HOME GAMES against Kolkata Knight Riders since 2013.

Yes, it was a MI-racle!

ICYMI!

The 'S' in Surya stands for Special

SKY loves silencing his doubters, and he did it in style with a 25-ball 43. Oh Captain, my Captain!

15 required in 24 balls

The chase is almost in the bag! SKY closing on his fifty and Tim David happy to be his side-kick. Vintage MI stuff, as you Paltan have been tweeting. We will say no more here.

38 required in 36 balls

Here we go! The last six overs. Aapla Dada Surya and Tim 'Bhau' David are the generals who will lead the run chase. Firepower and patience is key, and our MI stars are the masters of it. Paltan, keep your 'MUMBAI!!! MUMBAI!!' or 'GANPATI BAPPA MORYA!' chants coming in as with each chant, a boundary four or six is guaranteed.

Keep the support coming in!

Kishan's Kolkata Romance

21 balls.... (Read it again)

Powerplay charcha

Ishan Kishan was the headmaster in the powerplay, with four boundary fours and sixes apiece as he closes on a deserved IPL half-ton. Ro-hit Sharma's cameo was cut short but he made an impact of his own. Stay with us, as we bring more key updates.

However....

Oops, Hitman departs

Our impact player, even without the IPL rule, had his stay at the crease cut short by Umesh Yadav. KKR's impact player Suyash Sharma's delivery took a leading edge off Rohit's bat and saw a seasoned Umesh leap to take the catch with both hands.

Ishan got us like...

An I-shandaar second over

1,1(Rohit Sharma),4,4,6,0 - That's how Ishan Kishan bossed the second over bowled by Shardul Thakur. The audience at the covers and point could only be amazed at the batsmanship of our 'Pocket Dynamo'.

Arrey jor se bolo!!!!

SUBSITUTION... or in IPL terms.. IMPACT PLAYER

Intermission

Venkatesh Iyer was the driving force of KKR's first innings. It was a good sight. But you know what was more delightful to watch? MI's bowling, the fielding and Arjun Tendulkar not giving into pressure (17 runs in two overs).

Now then,

What do we have here? A 186-run target.

The participant(s)? Mumbai Indians' batters

Paltan, can we chase this? *voice slowly rises* YES.

Stay tuned for the second innings.

The Venkatesh Express has halted at the Meredith Station

After passing through multiple pit stops in his 51-ball 104, Venkatesh Iyer's innings was given a hard stop. A full delivery around the leg stump made the KKR batter try and take a detour past a train station named Riley Meredith.

Alas! A conductor named Duan Jansen caught him Iyer at over short third to end his innings.

Tilak Varma - a tale of two halves

Tilak Varma had a full circle moment.

12.2 - Varma's dashing effort to take Venkatesh Iyer's catch went against him.

12.5 - Varma half-dives forward to confidently take the catch of Shardul Thakur.

Hrithik Shokeen is happy, and so is Tilak. All smiles in the camp.

A little dose of drama: featuring Shokeen and Ishan

Hrithik Shokeen put Nitish Rana's frustrated spell at the crease to an end, with susbtitute Ramandeep Singh taking the catch. However, it wasn't meant to end without a brief exchange of words. In short, it is GAME ON!

Ishan Kishan, on the other hand, missed an opportunity to stump out Shardul Thakur. A costly error? Only time will tell.

Pi-Yuss!

The magician strikes, and it took only three balls into his first over of the afternoon. Chawla's delivery nudges Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who swings it towards Duan Jansen at short third man. As some people say, CLASS IS PERMANENT!

Keep the tweets coming!

ICYMI: Presenting, the first father-son duo in IPL history!

Green strikes first!

Cameron Green tempted N Jagadeesan, and the latter took the bait. Green's pitched up delivery forced KKR's opener to slice it in the air. Hrithik Shokeen takes a leap of faith and completes a brilliant catch to dismiss Jagadeesan. Even the third umpire was left amazed, if we could say so.

Arjun's first over: Safe start!

A Tendulkar opening at the Wankhede Stadium! How often have we seen that in recent years. But today, it was not Sachin but his son Arjun - with the ball. The left-arm seamer opened the bowling for MI with 0,2,1,1lb,1 - which included an appeal to dismiss Jagadeesan for LBW. Nerves not getting into his mind at the moment for the debutant.

Paltan, how do you feel about Arjun's debut?

The wait has ended....

Born and bred in Mumbai, albeit a state cricketer for Goa, Arjun Tendulkar will make his much anticipated debut in the Blue and Gold. His last few months in the sport - 100 on his Ranji Trophy debut for Goa in December 2022 - raised his confidence levels as a cricketer and a future breakout star for MI in the IPL. Stay tuned, Paltan!
