The records made and broken by MI in IPL 2023
Record trend-setters. Record breakers. Record story tellers. The Blue and Gold wave is one that is currently untouchable, and BELIEVE us, it won’t stop until we add trophy #6 to our cabinet.
As we build up to the second Qualifier, here are some records we have smashed down, some key statistics that have and will continue to define MI-ssion IPL 2023.
** Mumbai Indians has won seven consecutive matches in the playoffs stage in IPL since 2017, with our last loss coming against Rising Pune Supergiant in Qualifier 1.

** 200 is a special number to be associated with Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023. We have registered six 200-plus scores - the most by any team in an IPL season. Five of them have come at our fortress, the Wankhede Stadium, and this makes us the first side with five 200-plus totals at a venue in a T20 tournament.

** Also, MI are the only team to chase a 200-plus target more than twice in a single season. And out of those four wins, three successful chases have been witnessed in our cauldron: the Wankhede Stadium.

** Our dynamic mastery of run chases wouldn’t be top notch if we didn’t have a solid foundation in the opening overs of a game. Well, safe to say, our batters owned the powerplay overs with ease. In 15 innings so far in IPL 2023, MI have amassed 815 runs at a run rate of 9.05 with ‘Pocket Dynamo’ Ishan Kishan himself contributing 333 runs.

As a player, Aapla Dada Surya has been the flagbearer of the Mumbai Indians’ batting this season, and make no mistake, it is just ‘normal’ for him. With 544 runs at the moment, which includes his maiden IPL century against Gujarat Titans. The rate at which he has been batting has got him to top the charts for batting strike rate after facing a minimum of 100 deliveries in this season.

Spoiler alert: SKY requires just six runs to be only the second Indian after Sachin Tendulkar (IPL 2010, 2011) to aggregate over 550 runs in a single IPL campaign for Mumbai Indians.
** With great power comes great responsibility. And for our kaptaan - Ro-Hit Sharma - impossible is nothing in the Indian Premier League. The most successful IPL captain has an impeccable record in the playoffs stage. While he has lost only three knockout games, Hitman maintains the highest win percentage (79) amongst captains in IPL playoffs (minimum five matches).

** In a nutshell, 2023 has been a landmark year for Rohit Sharma, from marking his 10th year of MI captaincy and a decade since leading us to the first of five IPL crowns, to registering milestones such as 11,000 T20 runs, 250 IPL sixes, 200 T20 matches in a MI shirt (includes games in Champions League T20) and captaining the team in 150 of those fixtures.
** The 29-year-old Akash Madhwal created mayhem for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2023 Eliminator with his five wickets for a mere five runs. Besides equalling the most economical IPL spell ever bowled (Anil Kumble, RCB vs RR - 2009), Akash is now the new record-owner for the best bowling performance by an uncapped Indian bowler in IPL history. Also, he is THE FIRST BOWLER TO PICK A FIFER IN THE IPL PLAYOFFS.
